I’m currently 5 and a half weeks pregnant and due to 5 past miscarriages I had a scan at the EPU. Yesterday they saw a pregnancy sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole and said they would scan me next week to see if things are progressing. Should I be worried at this stage that there’s no fetal pole?

Generally the advice is not to scan before 6 weeks as it’s too early.

I think you are right on the cusp of when one can sometimes be seen, which is why so many places won’t scan this early on as it causes uncertainty, so hopefully all will be fine at the next scan.

Yes this happened to me, scan at 5.5 weeks showed just the sac and yolk sac. Went back two weeks later and there was baby with heartbeat 💓 I'm now 17 weeks! Good luck, I'm sure all is fine x

Its very strange and wonderful how quick they grow!

I had a miscarriage at 5+6 and it was a literal dot. Like you couldnt really see anything.
I had another miscarriage at 6 weeks and you could see a dot with arm and leg buds!!
With this pregnancy ive had a scan at 7 weeks and you literally see the huge difference.

Days and weeks make such a difference to scan measurements and heartbeats.

Please dont be too concerned about having a scan so early and not being able to see much! Its normal at this stage, think when you see how much baby has actually grown in a week! They can tell you a lot more and its amazing to see the difference in sizes! Good luck x
