Hi everyone, I'm 37+4 and just came back from a midwife appointment. It's extremely hot where I am (Sweden, would you believe it?!) and I'm not very good in the heat even when not pregnant. I'm really feeling it at the moment particularly as one of my feet and ankles has swollen to a ridiculous size...
Anyway, at my appointment the m/w noted that my bp was higher than usual (I have very low), then she checked the baby's heartbeat and it was galloping (late 160s). She kept listening for about 10 min and it wouldn't calm down. She asked me if I'd been stressed that day and I said no (apart from hot tram journey to the clinic). Said she'd ask me to wait outside and come in again to try again a bit later. But then she kept me lying for a bit anyway, put her hand on my tummy, kept listening for a bit and said the hb had calmed down (I checked notes and still the highest it's been though).
I'm now so scared the baby's in distress. Emailed the m/w when I got home but she'd already left for home. She was happy seeing me next week but I want to go in tomorrow to check again.
If the baby's hb did calm down a bit does that mean he's ok and potentially it was just that I stressed him a bit, or could he be in distress himself (cord, fluid problems etc) and still calm down for a short while - or would the hb not lessen if he was in distress? Sorry if this is rambling and confused, just got a bit scared as have a friend who was sent home at 38 weeks after the baby was seen to be distressed and the baby died before she was back there. Thanks for any advice!
