Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has been in denial about their gender scan? I have 3 boys and I was told by the sonographer that it looks like we will be adding a little girl and that she is almost certain its a girl and that she had it up on the screen and said you can see the 3 lines and that she would be shocked if she was incorrect, but im still struggling to believe that it could be a little girl so I know im very much in denial about it. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing or similar? Thank you :)

At 24 weeks the sonographer told us it was a girl, and she was very confident in that. I was sceptical until the birth but she is a girl and is now 5 months old. If the sonographer was certain then it’s likely a girl. I do understand the doubt though, I didn’t fully believe until she was born.

Oh just to add at the 20 week scan the sonographer couldn’t see clearly enough to say, he said he could guess but unless he’s certain he doesn’t say so he wouldn’t tell us his guess at that point.

We have been told “most likely” a girl by two sonographers and I’m still wondering if it’s a boy! I have no preference either way, I just like to know! I hasn’t helped that one of our NCT group had been told boy and she just gave birth to a girl!

Milliemoons · 01/10/2025 06:02

I think they have to say that because it’s never 100%. So they’re told to use ambiguous language even if they’re 100%. I wanted a girl first time around and didn’t believe it was a girl until she was born!

Thanks everyone for your reply :) Im the same I have no preference I actually wanted a 4th boy so I wouldn't mind either way but on my boys I was able to start buying stuff anf now I just feel like im in limbo 😂🤦‍♀️ Im not a huge lover of neutral clothing either. Its just thrown me a little wondering if I am actually having a girl as I was expecting them to 100% say boy. I think some of you are right if she wasnt sure she wouldn't of told us. She had it up on the screen and said I can see the '3 lines'. My boys were never shy either so you could tell straight away evem on my 3rd boy and he was stubborn during scans. So I think im just in a little bit of denial and shock as at the ultrasound I hardly acknowledged it due to being in shock. So im just trying to relax now and might go for a private scan possibly but we will see. Thank you all for your replies :)

I know someone who was told girl and bought all pink and he was born a boy 🤣😂

Can you post your scan pic?

Pennyroses · 05/10/2025 11:43

If they've seen the 3 lines then it's pretty much 100% it's a girl. They showed me the lines with my daughter and she was in fact a girl. Same this time so I'm trusting it definitely is! Congratulations! 🩷

Oaktreet · 05/10/2025 11:54

If you really want a girl you may be in denial to protect yourself from disappointment. Although highly unlikely, there is a chance the sonographer got it wrong, so not trusting them protects you incase they did get it wrong.

It's highly likely that they were right but if you really want to be sure you could get a private gender scan and see what they say. The chance of someone getting it wrong twice is just so so unlikely.

A lot of posters are so good at reading a scan pic , I don’t know how they do it . Post it and they will tell you .

magpie234 · 05/10/2025 12:06

Hey if you can afford it you could get a blood test done privately to confirm it?

Motherofthreewildboys · 06/10/2025 18:48

The first two photos are 12 weeks 4 days and the other one is 20 weeks :)

@Motherofthreewildboys Is called NIPT testing.

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 07/10/2025 18:48

It isn't a gender scan. It is an anatomy scan.
