39 week membrane sweep results - confused FTM!

Hey,

I had a membrane sweep performed on Thursday when I was 39 weeks exactly.

The midwife said that my cervix was posterior but soft, 3 fingertip dilated and on my notes it also says that my internal OS was closed.

I just wondered if anybody could clarify what this means? Am I dilated or is my cervix still very much closed?! 🤣 I’m very confused!

Does it say ‘-3’?

posterior (fairly common)
soft (that’s good)
-3 (high head)
fingertip (dilation not quite 1cm but not fully closed)
internal is closed (so cannot reach the ‘membranes’ ie sack of water around the baby)

so looks like you’re not dilated. This happened to me and I was very disappointed. I had a straightforward vaginal delivery 5 days later though so fingers crossed !

Amazing thank you. Yes it says -3 but I was reading it as a dash 🤣. So I couldn’t understand how I was 3cm dilated with a closed cervix but what you've said makes perfect sense.

and yes fingers crossed! x
