Heartburn - am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

I’m 38 weeks and suffered from HG until about 36 weeks. It has mostly cleared up, only to be replaced by heartburn!

I’ve been finding eating really hard due to the HG and I’m wondering if my diet is exacerbating the heartburn now. Can anyone weigh in on foods that helped the heartburn? Am I obviously eating something that is making it worse?

breakfast: plain porridge (made with oat milk)
lunch: skipped due to vomiting
snack: 2 dates and large handful of raspberries (I think the raspberries were definitely a mistake!)
dinner: pasta with red pepper sauce and salad

breakfast: plain toast
lunch: banana (felt vomity beforehand and now feel horrendous heartburn)

I have suffered with heartburn even prior to pregnancy.

I found like pasta sauces and anything with seasoning doesnt help!

Are you taking anything for the heartburn? I ate Rennie's like nobody's business, but honestly the best remedy was having baby 😅

Love hearts! As effective as rennies and tastier.

Bread made my heartburn worse, toast was ok and dipping it into soup was ok but a sandwich cause me agony.
When I was expecting my daughter any water flared up my heartburn.
With my daughter I had omperazole for the third trimester and occasionally with my second

I have found only the liquid gaviscon helps.

I believe rich sauces / tomato sauces can exacerbate it!

@HumberBridge2 @LER2023 I’m glad it’s not just me! I’m taking Rennie’s (about 4 a day!) And trying to get the baby out, hence all the dates!

Pregnancy heartburn is relentless! Ive said it for a while now! Im 32 weeks and its just a killer!!! Its the acid that comes up for me.

You think oh i'll have a nice decaf tea, yep until it just randomly comes back up with acid!🙃

Again i suffered with gastritis prior to pregnancy anyway but wow this is the worst its been ever!!

JuniperandI · 26/09/2025 14:52

Ask your GP for Peptac or similar. If you take it after meals I find it prevents the acid reflux from showing up. Tastes grim but it's great stuff.

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 27/09/2025 13:24

Just take two rennies about 10 minutes after every meal rather than waiting for it to start.

acidic things like tomatoes sauces make it worse I think. And spicy stuff.

the other recommendation is to eat smaller meals more frequently.
