Clearblue weeks indicator trauma

I know I shouldn’t, but I did 😣
I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy in the past which left me rupturing, internally bleeding and having emergency surgery to remove a tube.
I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant exactly.
I had blood tests done last Friday HCG 399
2nd draw Sunday 48 hrs later HCG 909
today’s clearblue says 2-3.
you need a HCG of around 2700 to trigger 3+ and if doubling normally would have passed that by now.
I have a placement scan booked for tomorrow but I’m petrified.
I was so positive until today. Anyone had experience of clearblue being stuck on 2-3 and everything was ok?

Hi Op. Sorry about your ectopic and the stress you’re under now, completely understandable!

I had IVF so knew how far along I was, I did a CB weeks indicator weekly and they never went up until the end of that week if that makes sense. So didn’t get 3+ until I was about 6 weeks pregnant (I’m assuming you know you’re 2 weeks ahead of the CB anyway).

Good luck with the scan 💐

veggietate · 25/09/2025 10:38

Yes, me! I never got a 3+ even though just like you, my blood HCG was sky high. They just never went past 2-3! I hate the things with a passion and think they should be banned. Very best of luck x

Thank you for your reassuring comments x

Hi OP, totally understand your anxiety.

I took a Clearblue weeks digi on 14th September and got 2-3. My beta from 15th September (about 12 hours later) was over 9,000miu/ml. I definitely think you need more than the stated 2700ish to trigger the tests!

VioIetMoon · 25/09/2025 14:59

It sounds good that your hcg is doubling.
Unfortunately I haven't had a positive experience with clearblue . Mine was stuck on 2-3 for 2 weeks and I knew something wasn't right with this, for me this was an indicator to get checked so I had bloods done which confirmed I'm miscarrying. My levels weren't doubling tho they went from 650 to 750 to 741 all 48 hrs apart . My levels were very low to begin with for what should have been 7 weeks and in my position I also didn't have progressing lines in normal tests or any symptoms.
In your position, try to relax the fact they have seen they are doubling is a good sign and your levels are fine for 5 weeks. Hopefully your scan gives you some reassurance. If you levels weren't close to doubling or were extremely low, then I would be concerned. I believe if your levels are alot higher than the threshold it can confuse the clearblue test

Thank you. I’ve started cramping quite strongly now. Every time I go to the toilet I’m expecting the worst 🥺

OP posts:
TokenGinger · 25/09/2025 20:02

I never went above 2-3 weeks in my first pregnancy on these tests xx

TokenGinger · 25/09/2025 20:03

I just saw your latest post. I also had a lot of cramping in the early weeks. The midwife said it was due to the growing uterus. It was concerning but all worked out well xx

gamerchick · 25/09/2025 20:05

Stop testing. They're not a medical tool. They're just an expensive bit of fun.

Just stop.

chouxchoux · 27/09/2025 07:42

How are you doing OP?

Heya. I had the scan yesterday and they saw the gestational sac and yolk sac in the correct place 😃. I’m about 5+1 so going back for a rescan in 9 days to check for fetal pole and heart x

Aww that’s great news - super happy for you! Fingers crossed for your next scan!

Hi Lovely.
just wondering how your next scan went?
I had a beta draw on the 4th October that was 1175 followed by an abdominal ultrasound on the 6th that showed gestational and yolk sac equal to 5+ weeks.
my clear blue on the 10th was still saying 2-3 weeks 😔
I have been intermittently spotting brown discharge (1 occasion a little bright red when after a bowel movement) when I wipe for 10 days now- EPAU are not concerned, but I am, the 16th still seems a long time away to wait for bad news 😞

marshamallow321 · 13/10/2025 16:51

@Jessraehiya. Sorry to hear you’re going through this. My rescan showed a fetal pole with a heartbeat. Measuring a little behind so I had another scan today 1 week later and all measuring on track at 7+5 and heartbeat seen again. Fingers crossed everything is ok for you. I was given progesterone pessaries a week ago because of bleeding. I have a tiny Hematoma x

Edited

I’m so glad you have had positive news!!
I'm still holding out hope for my US on Thursday- I feel dreadful at the moment and can’t seem to keep my eyes open!
Im going to try and stay away from the Clearblue tests now as they have just been causing me further anxiety!
The brown spotting continues… it’s been 9 days now, no better or worse! I don’t think they will prescribe progesterone- I’m a Midwife myself and I’ve only ever known it be prescribed for women who have had recurrent MC or preterm labour.
I don’t want to give them a call again as they respond with ‘you are a Midwife, you know spotting can be normal’ 🙄 which is absolutely not helpful!

marshamallow321 · 13/10/2025 17:00

@Jessrae I also wanted to add I found out that urine HCG can be as much as 80% less than a blood result, for example, blood hCG = 200 mIU/mL, urine hCG might range from 40 to 180 mIU/mL depending on conditions.

I’ve also seen posts of woman having HCG blood tests done the same day as they’ve received 2-3 on clearblue and their blood results should’ve triggered 3+ with numbers in the multiple 1000s, one lady had a result of 4000+ when her tests showed 2-3 still x

My hcg should have been around 9000 on Friday when I did the last Clearblue (if my levels were still doubling appropriately) but I am always extra hydrated, so who knows, I should know better than to keep using them as reassurance but I am becoming a bit obsessive! If it wasn’t for the spotting I definitely would t be testing like this c

@Jessraesorry, I was typing another message when you replied so I hadn’t seen your recently message. Did you say your scan that showed a yolk sac was abdominal? Not Transvaginal?

Yes it was abdominal, the sonographer said she could have done a transvaginal to see if there was a HB present, but said it would be highly unlikely at the gestation she measured me to be the x

i did a lot of research whilst driving myself crazy with the clearblue tests. I did manage to find out that through transabdominal, the yolk sac usually isn’t visible until hCG is around 6,500–7,000 mIU/mL or higher. I understand with the testing, I become obsessed. I had an Ectopic pregnancy rupture leaving me with 1 tube. I had a loss before that as well so I think I was trying to prepare myself and find anything wrong as soon as I possibly could. I don’t trust the clearblue weeks anymore. I’ve seen so many positive stories of 2-3 weeks being seen up until 6 weeks or more and everything being ok. I really hope this is the case for you as well 🤞 ❤️

Im hoping it is that my urine concentration is just very much diluted from what my blood levels are. If everything is ok on Thursday I will absolutely never trust them again in my life x

Great thank you!
fetal pole and cardiac activity seen!
measuring at 6+2- a few days behind but I was reassured that this can be the case until the official dating ultrasound at 12 weeks!
the spotting has now stopped for over 48 hours too, so that is reassuring!

Ive now been discharged from EPAU so I’m going to book myself a private scan in the next couple of weeks!

That’s great news 🥰🥰 those clearblue weeks are awful 😢
I believe they’ve actually been banned in the states x
