Bleeding at 12 weeks - looking for some support first time mum

Hey all,

I had a bleed at 12 weeks 1 day, 12 hours after I had my 12 week scan.
The scan showed a healthy baby and great heartbeat, obviously we were both on cloud 9 after seeing this.

Roll on to 3am in the morning, I went to the toilet and found that i was bleeding, a mix of red/dark red blood. Monitored for an hour and decided to contact our maternity triage.
I was seen right away, midwife checked baby's heartbeat, was spot on and I had an internal check.

No visible sign of live bleeding and my cervix was closed, no explanation. Although the team were incredible, I am just feeling so anxious and lost right now.

I have been having brown mucus like discharge since, which i was warned of. I am terrified of this happening again and with no explanation why, I am struggling to enjoy my pregancy.

I am planning on calling my midwife tomorrow for some reassurance, I wanted to reach out and ask others experiences here and if you have any tips on, how to manage this horrendous anxiety and stress.

Sending hugs. These things seem so scary don't they.

I had the same, bleeding the day after my 12 week scan with no explanation why. It all turned out fine, nothing else for the rest of my pregnancy and that baby is a lively almost 2 year old :)

The fact that the bleeding is now brown sounds positive, suggests it's old blood on it's way out. And that your cervix is closed and heartbeat strong is also great. Keep focussing on that hopefully when your bleeding stops completely that will help lift the anxiety :)

hey OP

, i know this can be terrifiying, big hugs.

my second pregnancy, everything was fine, lay on the bed one day around 12.5 weeks and all of a sudden, really heavy bleeding.
ended up at the early pregnancy clinic, they checked me out, scans etc said everything was fine

still never found a reason for it happening.

that baby is now a very sassy 8 yo

Think bleeding in pregnancy is far more common than you might think. I bled right through to about your stage with my two. If I hadn’t tested and had scans I’d have thought I was having my periods as normal. No reason ever given. I presume just baby bedding in, disturbing the lining maybe. Try not to worry.

I had bleeding like you've described at around 14 weeks, it was a subchorionic haematoma. Have had it a couple of times this pregnancy (now 19 weeks) and aside from being alarming, it's not caused any issues. It's just one of those random things that happens in pregnancies apparently!
