I have a Kyleena coil with a year left before it “expires” and after feeling hormonal and achey in my abdomen for a week after my period was due, I took a pregnancy test this morning to rule it out for peace of mind. To my utter disbelief there was a faint positive! Truly in shock. I called 111 as I thought it could be dangerous, and saw the out of hours GP who did another urine test. There was no more she could do, other than send a letter to my normal GP so I can have a blood test tomorrow as quickly as possible.

She seemed very relaxed and said many women have carried to term leaving the coil in, or they can remove it, but also mentioned that it can be a high risk pregnancy, and also that removing it could make for a safer pregnancy long term but higher risk of loss with the removal. I fear this decision is looming for me. The third option seemed that it is likely I will have an early miscarriage in the coming weeks, and I should be braced for that.

I don’t know how to feel, we have a 6yo, are about to move house, and we’re planning to try for baby 2 once we were in and finished some renovations etc. I feel both outcomes are quite overwhelming right now!

Would love to hear of any similar experiences, or any stories about it happening to you or someone you know!

If it’s any consolation I fell pregnant on the pill, then coil like you and mini pill. Had coil removed at 12 weeks and she’s now 30 years old. My first one was planned my other 3 not, I don’t regret having had them , love them all. It was tough at times but wouldn’t have changed a thing.
