38 weeks pregnant with shooting pains

I'm currently 38+ 3 weeks pregnant and have managed to catch a respiratory infection from my daughter.
Everytime i cough im literally getting shooting pains through my cervix/vagina and im genuinely worried that baby is going to fall out (which i know is impossibke but its making me feel uneasy!).
Its actually quite painful and makes me double in pain.
Midwife laughed and said its normal.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is it just ligament pain or am i at risk of rupturing my waters or something drastic?!

If your waters go you are at term so it’s fine! Relax, usual advice if you feel very unwell, change in movements seek help.

there is a lot of pressure and the coughing will just be pulling ligaments. Not pleasant bit as you’ve checked with midwife then nothing to do. Did you have the whooping cough jab?

Yes I had the Whooping cough vaccine quite a while ago now.
There seems to be a law that im this close to the end of pregnancy then fall ill.
The pain when I could is honestly not what id ever expect if im honsst!
All of a sudden i feel like im carrying a bowling ball between my legs and every cough is making me want to wee!
Pregnancy is not glamorous is it?!

I’ve had the pains too. No idea if they are ligament or whatever, but from googling they seem normal.

My baby hasn’t fallen out yet!

I remember having those horrible shooting pains in my pregnancies (they are now 27 and 29 years old - all good!)

I think you’re describing round ligament pains.
i had them both pregnancies but mainly pre 12 weeks. It’s like the first sign I get when I’m pregnant!

did happen sometimes later on but mainly from sudden movements. They are nasty!

Yes! And a long time ago but I can still remember the sensation. In all seriousness I asked the gp if it was possible to prolapse before the baby was born. Without a word of lie he fell off his chair laughing, I did not join in as I didn’t think it was funny and anyway I would have wet my knickers!
All went well with the delivery and whilst I did still feel as though my insides might drop out with any cough or sneeze they didn’t and it did remind me to do my pelvic floor exercises. I am proud to say that a small child announced that I am the only lady on the campsite who can do the bungee trampoline without wetting her pants.
Good luck with the baby.

Yes I had this. Also if you are sick with a virus your body may stop you going into labour until it feels up to it. It can quite often feel like baby is going to fall out in the last couple of weeks depending on position of bubs. Unfortunately this wont happen, you will still have to push lol.

yep shooting pains up your cervix perfectly normal unless there is blood and the pains are severe and continu

Yes had this towards the end of my second pregnancy- really painful shooting pains. I think I saw someone call it ‘lightening crotch’ which describes the feeling quite well!!
