Is it normal to be this tired and fat so early on?

I am soooooo exhausted, to the point where I had 14 hours sleep last night and a 2 hour nap this afternoon (thanks MIL!), but I am still shattered. I do have a 21m Ds to run round after but my DH is a teacher and has been looking after him all last week during half term, so I haven't done much at all.

I am 11 weeks pg and already bursting out of my trousers..not just in the belly, although that is definitely prominent, but also in the bottom and thighs and I am normally quite thin. But I can't stop eating because as soon as I have say a 20 minute break, I start to feel sick and faint.

I can't remember from last time feeling quite this bad - is it normal, or am I expecting twins? They do run in my family and I am praying that I don't have twins...they are lovely and all that but I struggled enough looking after just one newborn.

(Nb MNetters with psychic ultrasound are particularly welcome on this thread).

I have twins (after my singleton). And I was looking very pregnant by 12 weeks.

Seriously, when did you start feeling extra large and extra tired? Whose side of the family are they on, fathers side or mothers side?

A uterus that has been stretched out once before will stretch out that bit easier second time round so it could just be that.

I felt much worse both physically and MS wise in my second pregnancy than my first.

The extreme fatigue should ease off soon, but as far as I know it;s all perfectly normal, as is the having to eat to keep MS at bay.

I was also much more pregnant looking sooner; I think because your body remmebers and lets itself hang out much sooner than with a first one (you should see me 18 weeks into my third. someone asked me at 14 weeks how long I had to go...you should've seen their face when I said six months )

Surely your dating scan will be soon and you'll get the twins question answered, but Ms can be mouch worse with twins and you get bigger quicker as well. If it is twins, don't worry, it;ll be hard but you'll cope

Twins on my mum's side. Two of my cousins have had identical twins and my grandma was a twin.

I noticed I was getting bigger by 8-9 weeks and I have been seriously tired for a few weeks now. I mean literally going to bed no later than 6.30 some nights. The feeling sick came on at about 6/7 weeks and it is the same as last time in that I am never actually sick, but just feel it all the time. Only this time it must be worse as last time I was managing a 1 hour journey to work each way, includng a 30 minute walk. This time I need an hour to lie down if I walk 20 minutes, as I feel so sick and tired.

Oh I am probably just whinging, shoot me But I am only seeing the MW for the first time on Wednesday and no scan even booked yet.

Well, I guess there is no way of knowing until the scan.......but it all sounds so similar.... I am saying that so you can be slightly prepared instead of almost falling off the scan table and crying for 3 hours like I did

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 02/06/2008 19:05

If its twins on your mums side then that means you may inherit the 'ability' to produce more than one egg per cycle and therefore its possible they will both be fertilised.....

If its on your dad's side it means it is a random happening and therefore no real reason it should happen again.

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 02/06/2008 19:06

I get the feeling I'm not helping

largeginandtonic · 02/06/2008 19:07

I think it could be nothing or two nothings

We can quake together, i am fearful this pregnancy may be another duo...

I am 12 weeks and look about 5/6 months and I'm only having 1. So its possible.

largeginandtonic · 02/06/2008 19:11

Now that sounds nice and nothing sounds nice at the moment what with all the morning sickness.

largeginandtonic · 02/06/2008 19:12

Kay you hope you are only having one...

I had 1 at 6 weeks, 2 at 9 weeks and 3 by 12 weeks. They were looking in the same place everytime

brucelovesfrumpygrumpy · 02/06/2008 19:14

LG&T, banana milkshakes got me through the first 3/4 months of my first pregnancy. Slurped heaps. Crushed potatoes and salt worked with the DTs.

largeginandtonic · 02/06/2008 19:15

Yes i am on carbs and salt. Oodon noodles with soy is current fave. May have to go and make a smoothie, mmmmmmm.

kayzisexpecting · 02/06/2008 19:18

I've had 2 scans. If by 20 weeks I have 2 I think I will

A. Cry
B. Cry
C. Get DH to complain that sonographer(sp) is useless
D. Cry

kookykid · 02/06/2008 19:35

I showed with my DC ridiculously early (could be a possibility that I just let it all hang out a bit as knew I was pg ). Evryone predicted twins, but was oly a singleton! Only way to find out for sure is to wait for the scan!

kookykid · 02/06/2008 19:36

oh, And I was totally knackered!

kayzisexpecting · 02/06/2008 19:55

I'm hoping it will all even out or I'll be really huge at 35+ weeks.

EEC · 02/06/2008 20:24

I'm 34 weeks now. I put on loads of weight really early on - just like you I couldn't stop eating as I felt sick pretty much all the time and only stopped it by eating. Also felt so tired - a bit like altitude sickness where you feel you've got lead running around your veins and even walking up the stairs is too much. I didn't get this 1st two times!
If it helps, once I stopped feeling sick (around 17 weeks) it sorted itself out and now I am normal size for my dates. I sort of lost the weight I'd put on elsewhere (legs, arms, bottom!) and now just have large bump!

No twins here. Everyone puts on weight at different rates at different times.

Hang in there!
