Dull ache like period pain

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this - I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been having what I can only describe as the dull ache you get just before your period arrives. In fact, that's what I had been thinking it was until I did the pg test. It's not all the time but does last for hours. I had a dating scan yesterday and baby is fine and with a heart beating etc, so am not unduly worried. Sonographer said it might be just the growing of the baby. Didn't have it with my first, however.

I had quite a bit of dull aching in the early weeks of my pregnancies, and the frist time round thought it might be a sign of a miscarriage. Rang my GP who said it was very common to get this kind of ache, caused by the uterus muscles stretching to accommodate the growing foetus. So chances are that's what's going on with you too. HTH.

Hi Cha - With my 2 and 3rd babies I had a lot of mild stomach cramps (much like period ones) along with aches in my back. I was told it was the muscles and ligaments beginning to stretch. This went on for around the first 10 weeks or so then subsided. In the beginning many have the same exact symptoms as PMS when your pregnant. It's the same hormonal issue. Good luck

Cha - I also experienced this with my first and only pregnancy - mostly at the beginning but also at other times throughout. I panicked initially and saw my Doctor - he said it was the uterus growing.

Cha even when pregnant you can experience these pains and its nothing to worry about. Its just your body adjusting...congratulations on your pregnancy.

Cha - for both my successful pg I felt on the brink of a period for the whole of the first trimester. I also expereinced the occassional sharp pain when I sneezed or turned over suddenly. Didn't seem to indicate any problems.
With my last pg I had a cyst on my ovary. Sonographer told me this was very common and it would go later but that it would probably ache quite a bit. Congratulations BTW.

I had dull period like ache on and off all through both my pregnancies. I was told it was just the stretching of the uterus/ligaments etc. Don't worry, if that's the worst of what you get consider yourself lucky.

I am so glad I found this thread!!! I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have been having these dull aches aswell! I was going to ring the doctor tomorrow and may still do so just to double check but it sounds fairly common. That's the one thing I haven't seen in any of the books I've read!!!!!

I had this with both my pregnancies. I was really worried at the time. I have never read about it either. When i anxiously asked the midwife she told me it was normal and it was just everything expanding and getting ready. I had 2 problem free pregnancies and 2 healthy kids so don't worry!
