Hi everyone. Im 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have been so careful and tonight we went out for work drinks. I had a Strawberry and Lime Rekorderlig alcohol free 0% ABV. I thought it would be safe but 3/4 way through I googled and it said that alcohol free drinks are still dangerous to the baby- so I stopped immediately. On Google it says the ABV is 0.00% but on the bottle it only says 0%.
im going out of my mind (this is our first baby after years of infertility and I’m so frightened)
please can someone help me

It is absolutely fine. Even if was 0.05 or 0.5%, that’s such an incredibly dilute amount for you, let alone getting into your bloodstream.

Frankly, even if you drank one alcoholic cider, there is no evidence of a single drink having any adverse impact on a baby, only moderate to heavy drinking.

I drank 0% mocktails on a few occasions when pregnant. DS is a happy healthy 8 month old. All will be fine don’t stress.

If it's the alcohol you're worried about, you should be safe, don't worry. Some drinks have a trace amount like 0.05% but that is apparently the same amount found naturally in fruits. Relax, stressing is definitely more impactful than the drink

In what way are alcohol free drinks dangerous for a baby?

ForLoveNotMoney · 17/09/2025 20:22

You will be absolutely fine OP. Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy

Totally understand why it's frightened you after the journey you have been on but you will be fine!

In several (developed, western) countries around the world the advice is still something like 1-2 glasses of wine a week rather than a total ban - and they are none the worse for it in terms of infant outcomes.

0% alcoholic drinks have teeny tiny amounts in them. Nothing at all to worry about (although by all means avoid them from here if it will stress you out)

I once read that there’s a trace amount of alcohol in well ripened fruit e.g. a spotty banana. I say this not to put you off fruit, but to reassure you that your drink will not have harmed your baby 💐

I drank shloer in a wine glass while pregnant. Worked for me.

@Soontobemum85 I'm also wondering how alcohol free drinks are "dangerous"?

I think it’s some sources online taking the stance that as we don’t know a safe level of alcohol is in pregnancy that no alcohol should be consumed. Some alcohol free items do indeed have 0.0% on the label while others may have 0.5% and be labelled non-alcoholic.

Personally I was ok with having my alcohol free gin mocktail when pregnant. We give up enough and when at a wedding or out for dinner I wanted a pretty drink still!
