Positive AFTER bleeding

Ok so a bit of a weird one I wanted to see if anybody has anything similar…
a few days ago I posted that my first real period post stopping the pill was lasting ages, something in me made me do a pregnancy test completely not expecting the result to be positive… instantly 2 sold lines appeared which knocked me side ways.
spoke to doctors who said it could be anything from a long implantation bleed to a loss of pregnancy but all we can do is wait another 2 weeks to test again and see if I’m still positive or not.
have anybody had anything remotely similar?
for context, my period lasted a good week normal flow then ever since has became more of a spotting/brown when wiping??

Yours sounds exactly like mine. I had a period that seemed to be going on a bit longer than normal. Got a positive pregnancy test. Turns out it was a hematoma that was bleeding out, not a period. All was fine with pregnancy and baby.

Betty208 · 17/09/2025 12:27

Wow I’m so pleased to hear firstly all was okay for you and that somebody has actually experienced something similar!
Im fully prepared for the event that in 2 weeks I may be negative but am pleased there’s still a chance.
was it like a normal period for you? Red blood, fairly heavy etc?

Yes this happened to me too, and I had fairly regular bleeding until about 16 weeks I think. I had a cervical ectropian which was bleeding. All was fine with the pregnancy and baby, my daughter is now 5. It was very worrying though.

Roseau18 · 17/09/2025 12:42

Same happened to me. In fact I didn't even bother doing a pregnancy test and only discovered I was 8 weeks pregnant via a blood test (prior to prescribing a particular medication,) and then a dating scan The baby is now 25.

Yeah started off like a pretty normal period for me, heavy first day then medium-heavy. But normally mine taper off quite quickly and by day 5-6 it’s very light, but in this instance it stayed persistent for a full 7 or 8 days and I thought this is very unusual for me, so did a test thinking I must have had an early MC. Took another few days for the flow to get lighter, but the tests were getting stronger. By the time I got my scan at the EPU to confirm all was well I’d pretty much stopped bleeding.

MeadowMouse · 17/09/2025 14:26

I haven't had exactly that experience, but I had a lot of bleeding in early pregnancy up to around 8 weeks. When it's very early, it's hard to know what is going on. Two weeks is a long time to wait though. Can they do a blood test? Wishing you all the best. X

Betty208 · 17/09/2025 14:35

She said because it would be so early on there’s no definitive option right now but to wait, would be too early for an ultrasound to see anything so just have to keep testing over the coming weeks… long few days ahead trying to keep distracted! X

Hi I had a positive test after a period and it unfortunately ended in early miscarriage but I have also read many positive outcomes and hope that's the case for you. However getting a positive test after a "period" is also a red flag for ectopic and I'm surprised your doctor didn't mention that, if you develop pain it would probably be worth presenting to EPU for a scan. Best of luck hopefully it works out well for you.

For any of you that did have a chemical or loss at an early stage, how long did the bleeding last? I’ll be at 2 weeks on Friday (first week was like a usual period and this last few days mostly just brown/pink spotting when wiping)
This is the hardest part is just waiting for it to stop now…

I had an early loss last year and had a normal period that lasted 6-7 days and then I had a mixture of pink/brown spotting and heavier bleeding for another 2 weeks so around 3 weeks total. I tested positive after the normal period so around day 8 of bleeding and then the loss happened at the end of 3 week point. I bled for another 4 days afterwards pretty heavily then nothing.

Hi guys,
for anybody still following… I tested yesterday morning (I know I should be waiting the 2 weeks but now the bleeding has stopped I wanted to check in) and it’s still very much positive. If anything, the lines darker than when I initially tested a week ago.
I’ll test again when I reach that 2 week mark and see where we are from there. It’s a horrible waiting game this is…

just to clarify, it’s been over 10 days since I first had what I thought was a period

hiya lovely, that's great news fingers crossed for you!

waiting around is always the worst part, wishing you all the best.

AmberBeaker · 22/09/2025 19:29

That sounds like a good sign. With my loss the lines clearly got progressively lighter over a few days, never darker. Fingers crossed you get more info soon.

Betty208 · 26/09/2025 17:24

Did another test last night which came back positive before the control line even appeared, very strong. However some more spotting/bleeding again today. Got the doctors to refer me to the hospital for some further checks as it’s been 3 weeks of this now and causing so much distress :(
hopefully on Monday/Tuesday I’ll get my answers x

Sending you love. I hope you can get some answers reassurance ♥️

LuckyMoonstone · 26/09/2025 17:43

It’s good that the line is strong! Are you able to get a scan at the epu and some blood tests?

Betty208 · 26/09/2025 17:45

So the EPU are finally seeing me Monday to do their own pregnancy test, bloods and depending on how my HCG scores would then diarise a scan? Now I have the fear I’ll suddenly be negative by Monday after all this time… such a rollercoaster ☹️

OP posts:
Chica1990 · 26/09/2025 18:59

I had similar and unfortunately it turned out to be ectopic. My tests got stronger and I kept bleeding on and off, they couldn't see anything on a scan but suspected it from two blood tests 48 hours apart and had a laparoscopy to confirm and resolve it. I'm hoping for a better outcome for you

AmberBeaker · 26/09/2025 19:29

So confusing and stressful for you but I'm glad you're still testing positive and glad you are getting seen at EPU for some answers, wish you luck for next week.

Betty208 · 30/09/2025 15:15

Ok, here’s the latest…
I had my bloods done yesterday which came back at just over 4500 so was able to get in for a scan today.
scan was done internally and shown a sack/start of a pole measuring around 5 weeks 3 days.
no heartbeat yet which I’m told is normal so going back in a weeks time to see if anything has progressed.
no obvious cause to the bleeding but the internal probe has aggrevated it a little…
I suppose now I just cross my fingers for a heart beat next week 🤞🏻

Oh that’s good news so far! Mine was exactly the same, no heartbeat seen at that gestation but there was when I went back 10 days later :)
