Previous pregnancy HCG or new pregnancy following miscarriage

Hi, I’m 35 days post miscarriage (missed miscarriage, treated with meds at about 6w5d)

I watched HCG reduce then took a test about 2 weeks later and it looked negative

roll on 35 days later, I passed some pink and assumed period was coming

decided to take a pregnancy test tonight and think I can see a 2nd line

any thoughts….?

how long would a home pregnancy test be positive after a miscarriage?
could this be a new pregnancy?
or should I contact someone about still having HCG?

(just about to order meds for IVF)

I guess I’ll test again and see if it gets any darker 🤷‍♀️

That looks positive to me, I think tentative congratulations. You shouldn't still be testing positive at this point from your previous miscarriage.

If you had a negative test and now it's positive I'd say it's a new pregnancy

I had a miscarriage in December and when I still hadn't had my period in Feb I took a test. I'm now breastfeeding that baby!

I had a negative pregnancy test on the 2nd January (3 weeks post miscarriage at 10 weeks) and based on my due date I conceived later that week. I phoned the epu and that got me in for blood tests to measure my HCG. It was over 100k so they scanned me the next day. This was a week after my positive test and I was 8 and a half weeks

Thanks ladies.
sorry to hear about your loss @Superscientistbut so glad you got your baby in the end ❤️

I’ve taken another test this morning but it’s super super faint (ordered some more for tomorrow)
I don’t even know how many DPO I would be but maybe only 7 🤷‍♀️

I got a new brand of test as I’ve read the One Step ones I was using can give false positives.
can still see a faint line
should I call the nurse who supported me with the miscarriage maybe?
has a bit more bleeding earlier
no idea what’s going on!

It wouldn't hurt to give them a call. They might do some blood tests to monitor your HCG to see if it's static or decreasing suggesting residual from the miscarriage or potentially it might indicate that there remains some tissue from the lost pregnancy. If it's increasing it's more likely to suggest new pregnancy.

I'd probably try to wait 3-5 days between repeated tests. If it is a new pregnancy you would expect to see a 4 fold increase in hcg in that time and the change in the line strength would go from faint to more distinctive
