I was my single friends birth partner. i was there for moral support really, got her water, stroked her hair, held her hand, fanned her etc. The other thing we did, was talk through her birth plan and I agreed that if she really wanted or didn't want something I would help relay this. Also that if she changed her mind i.e wanted an epidural ,I would double check with her first.

Good luck, it was a fantastic experience, I hadn't even had kids at that point and it didn't put me off!

Hi there!

I was my single friends birth partner too! It was a pretty amazing experience. She just wanted someone to be there with her I think. I held her hand and she put her foot on my hip to help to push. She spent 3 hours in full on labour before her son arrived!! Stunning!
Obviously it's not as 'nice' as you see on the telly and at 19 years old I don't think I expected it to be as messy as it was I was suprised at how business like the mw were and how vunerable my friend was - I think you feel a bit useless at times. It was a bit shocking as well - I didn't know about epesiotimies (yikes sp!)I think the only time I felt 'funny' is when she delivered the placenta - I had to sit down
It did kind of put me off the idea of having kids for a while but I'm 34 and 17 weeks pregnant now - ooer!
Hope that helps!!
Bx
