Can't get hold of Midwife have confusing bloodtest result - can anyone help translate

I am waiting for a callback but midwifes are holding Parentcraft classes so it won't be till late afternoon.

I have taken a bloodtest to see if I am immune to 'Slapped cheek' otherwise known as Parvovirus (not sure on spelling I am afraid). Anyway the test has come back from immunology as 'positive' - now does that mean yes I am immune (most likely i am) or something else? The doctors surgery couldn't interpret it for me.

Any immunologists/ midwifes around?
Thank you

think it means you are immune as you tested positive so have had it?

scorpio1 · 02/06/2008 14:19

i think it means yes you are immune.

they are testing for immunity - so pos is yes you are, neg is no you're not.

belgo · 02/06/2008 14:19

yes I think it means you have immunity against it as you've already had it.

Thank you Cupoftea - that is what seems most likely.

Now ds has Chicken pox and my mum can't remember for sure if I have had it - so I will probly have to go through the whole thing again [sigh]

Strangely enough the midwife wasn't 100% sure herself! She 'thinks' it means you have had it and therefore are ok - great when your health professionals know what they are talking about isn't it? Oh well I have to go to Docs now anyway as a precaution as ds has Chicken pox so will be back on the bloodtest roundabout. great
