how many weeks are you now mad4?

Pregnancy insomnia is one of the worst effects of being pregnant. some say it is your body preparing itself for the sleep deprivation after the baby is born, but I'm sure there are more rational physiological reasons for it.

Sucks though

you are subconciously thinking about your baby etc. doesnt have to be at the front of your mind, but its there

your life is about to change in a huge dramatic way and you know it!

if you cant sleep dont just lie there. get up and do something. then go back to bed when you feel sleepy

theres nothng wrong with napping during the day either

I am 34 wks pregnant and I am getting pregnancy insomnia as well, though unsure it's to prepare for baby as this one is my second within 19 months, so have toddler to look after as well/

Mad4mybaby, I am the same. Just can't get back to sleep if I tried and not thinking about anything in particular. Can't remember this happening with DD1. Doesn't help that hubby is fast asleep snoring away!

Hope you can gain some during the day if your already on maternity leave, or if you have any spare time. x

doesnt the 2 yr old nap?

mad4mybaby · 02/06/2008 10:00

yes but hit and miss what time and how long for at the moment and i tried sleeping when he was asleep yesterday but i just wasnt tired enough to nap!! So annoying. Its around 4pm that if i sit down id fall asleep, worse time cause of having to do tea!

Sketchi, this is my 2nd aswell and i also dont remember it first time round!

late afternoon is a killer for me as well. blood sugars dip too low then so I try and make sure I have a nutricious snack when DS gets home from school.

I definately had it with DS, but not until much later in my pregnancy, after 30 weeks. I've had bouts of it on and off this time already and am 17.5 weeks. Don't remember much of it with DD though, mostly with her it was lack of sleep due to constantly needing the loo all night!

Try and rest up when DS is sleeping. Even if you don't manage to snooze, jut sitting recharging your batteries for an hour will make all the difference to the late afternoon slump

Hi,

Im the same! Well this is my first baby so i dont have the "running around" but the sleep thing is terrible!

Am 15 weeks now, been sleeping funnily for around 8 weeks. I have HG so i thought it was the pills i am on but i came off them a week ago and it is just as bad. I am shattered in the evenings but i make myself hold out till 10.30pm because i can only sleep a max of 4 hours before im awake. DP and i only just started sleeping in the same room again because i couldnt stand waking up and hearing him snoring! Im ready to get up after 4 hrs of sleep and try everything to get back, takes ages and its not really sleep, probably wake up around 20 more times before the alarm goes off.

I really am getting the practice in!

Hi

I am new on here and so relived to hear that I am not alone is my quest for a full night's sleep. I am 10 weeks pregnant and this is my first. I nod of to sleep very easily as by 9pm I am totally shattered. Then I wake up with a full bladder and then lie awake for hours struggling to fall asleep. I am going to return to yoga after my first trimester and I hope that it will help with the sleep.

babylove123 · 05/06/2008 09:39

Hi Periwink, let me know how the yoga goes, might look into it if it works!

Periwink · 05/06/2008 18:07

Babylove - I will be going back to yoga and doing a pregnancy yoga class starting in two weeks time - where I practise yoga they do not like women in first trimester to attend yoga classes. I will definetly let you know if the yoga helps with the sleep.

babylove123 · 06/06/2008 08:40

Thanks Periwink, hope it works for you
