Talk me off a cliff - Vitamin A

Help!

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and struggling to keep any food down. The only thing keeping me going is the BOL power shakes. I’ve just read the ingredients and realised they contain vitamin A.

Im having a major panic here. My last pregnancy we found out at 20 weeks there was an issue with the brain. Luckily it all tuned out ok but I’m so scarred from that.

Has anyone else drank BOL while pregnant? Was everything ok?

Talk me off this cliff.

I would check with them whether the vitamin A is derived from animal (retinol) or vegetable (betacarotene). Betacarotene is a safe version to have in pregnancy and it's the retinol form you should avoid.

Thank You so much for replying. You’re a hero!

Its vegan so contains the latter Vit A.

My husband is very thankful that his wife is now much calmer than 10 minutes ago.

I've always found this an interesting one. In the UK the advise women don't take vitamin a however if you look closely at ingredients it does contain a form of vitamin a beta carotene which they deem safe. You do need some vitamin a.
However in USA I don't know if this is still the case or guidelines have changed recently but they used to advise women to take vitamin a .
So my overall opinion is I guess it is dose dependant? Obviously higher doses wouldn't be recommended.
Can't comment on bol shakes but in my last pregnancy I had severe food tolerances and I drank slimfast shakes to keep my energy up it has vitamin a. Baby is 1 and perfectly fine
