Possible twins on early scan?

I just had a scan measuring 6w6d and they found two sacks one with a fetus with a heart beat and another sack was empty. He said it could be twins. Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did it turn out? Could it just be its too early still?

At 6w4d, we could see two sacs and two heartbeats.

By 11 weeks there was only one heartbeat, sadly.

You could book a private scan for around 8 weeks, you’d usually be able to see a good heartbeat then, but I believe you’d usually see a heartbeat at 6+6 so I’d temper your expectations.

I hope you get the answer you want. Congratulations 💐

I don't have any experience of this but wishing you all the best and a hopeful bump for you x

Was this a private scan or at EPAU. I only ask because I got told at a private scan that there was two sacs and two yolk sacs yet when I went to EPAU it was actually one sac and a bleed next to it that had perhaps been mistaken for a second. The private scan was abdomonial and EPAU was transvaginal, I know they tend to be more accurate, not sure which you had. Wishing you all the best though 🙏🏼

I am scan trained. Unfortunately at 6+6 weeks, you would expect to see a heartbeat in both sacs. I hope they have offered you a second scan in a week’s time but it sounds like the second sac hasn’t developed to me. Good luck.

@Holdonforsummer Would you say this is twins or one baby? 5 weeks 6 days
