Kingston Maternity - Scan Inaccuracies

Wanted some advice - Currently 25 weeks pregnant and am registered at Kingston hospital. We had our 20 week scan at the hospital where the sonographer said they couldn’t see the face and heart so we had to go for a repeat scan. We then went back the week after and they were able to see the heart but said they’d already seen the face, even though they hadn’t? It was the same sonographer. We also found out today at our 24 midwife appointment that there were a number of inaccuracies in the report from our 20 week scan - She said my Doppler report was normal in the conclusion however in the report itself was raised. I’m really concerned that the whole report is wrong as I don’t know what to trust and am filled with anxiety and can’t stop crying - What shall we do? My husband has already contacted the complaints department, and the maternity unit. I’m considering moving hospitals but is this too quick of a decision to make? I just feel like we’ve done a disservice to our unborn baby 😔

I think you might be jumping the gun a bit. It’s normal they can’t see certain parts of baby if they are in the wrong position.

I live near Kingston and lots of my friends had their babies there. Some good births some bad births. I am a little further away and gave birth at the next closest hospital with good bits and bad bits of all 3 of my births. It’s sadly unrealistic to find the perfect maternity service anywhere possibly unless you go privately

Sorry to hear you're going through this, so stressful! I had my baby 10 weeks ago at Kingston Hospital and apart from a very small thing that came up post-natally, I couldn't fault their care. That said, these systems aren't perfect!

During my 20 week scan, the sonographer scanned the face and showed us baby's lips. Did that happen during your appointment? If not, I think you're right to raise it. Have you mentioned your concerns to your midwife? Might be worth calling or texting them to push the point - in my experience they were very responsive x

I just wanted to provide an update on this in case anyone else goes through something similiar and most importantly say a big thank you to everyone for commenting and giving me their advice, really appreciate it ❤️❤️
My husband received a call from the lead sonographer yesterday evening who told him that she’d reviewed all the images and everything was fine with our baby. She said she wasn’t sure why the sonographer made the mistakes on the report with not ticking that she’d seen the face, and also the incorrect conclusion about the increase in Doppler and apologised for this mistake. She said she would have a word with the sonographer and will also bring this up with her manager next week. We also requested that our additional growth scans be done by a senior sonographer and that we do not see this sonographer again which she was happy to do. Hoping this in the only time we go through something like this as overall the experience at Kingston has been great. She also said she would write our report again and post this to us so we can replace it in our file.

I bet the sonographer is really relieved not to have to scan you again
