3rd baby due in feb had first naturally but needed a episiotomy, second I ended up with emergency c had to be put under general because I decided against epidural and it was to late to give me one in time for op. I want to try vbac but nervous, would I be better to get an epidural just in case? What should I expect this time around or would you advise just have a planned c section from experience? Really don’t want another emergency under general.

I would really recommend booking a birth debrief with the hospital to discuss your last birth, what went wrong, why an emergency section was needed. Once you have that information you can discuss what your best option is for this time, what risks you may face etc so you can make a fully informed choice x

The not having an epidural was almost certainly not the decider in whether you were able to stay awake/go to sleep. If there had been time/it had been safe they’d have done a spinal injection if you didn’t have an epidural in already but if it’s a really a crashing emergency there isn’t time to either do a spinal or top-up an epidural and GA is the safest option. Maybe if you decide to go for a debrief ask to speak to an anaesthetist too and they can hopefully explain the rationale for the last decision and the options for this delivery to help you decide.
