Signs of Having Baby Early...

I know this is random but did anyone have any signs that they were going to have baby early and not reach the 40 weeks?

Obviously I know the obvious ones of waters breaking and contractions but before that happened were you poorly? Feeling well? Was it spontaneous? Did you feel different?

With my first I was really poorly the whole morning, went up to bed to rest/sleep and then my waters broke by lunchtime. I was just before 38 weeks.

I had a very bad chest infection - was in pain with my stomach & I felt the need to push and my waters broke out of the blue. I was too early for the 24 weeks, there was nothing they could do.

@anon1411 I’m wondering the same! I’m 36 weeks with baby number two. I was induced with my first so have no previous experience. Keep thinking this baby is going to come early and constantly monitoring any wee symptom 😅

With my daughter my bump went squiggy in the afternoon. My waters went at midnight. I think probably the amniotic sack must have gone earlier in the day but it took until midnight for the waters to be released.

I was induced with my second at 37 weeks but had been having contractions for 3-4 weeks before hand due to an irritated uterus. I kept expecting him to make an early arrival and was checked for preterm labour a couple of times but my cervix was always closed.

Spontaneous for both of mine!
I had cramps with my first that I was like well am I just achey or braxton hicks or is this labour. Then my water broke that evening so I was like oh well that's labour I guess!
Second we just sat down to eat and watch bohemian rhapsody and contractions started, never had braxton hicks in either pregnancy so knew this was labour, waters didn't break until the push before she was born.
First a few days before due date and the second a week or so after due date.
No illnesses, no funny feelings, just all of a sudden contractions
But everybody is different so I'm sure somebody will have a different story 😊

The opposite! The day my baby decided he was ready to come out (just shy of 37 weeks) I was feeling pretty good and energetic! Got my hair cut and walked around town a bit, came home cooked dinner, hubby and I watched some TV… I stood up and whoosh! Waters broke. No warning at all.

I was poorly for around a week couldn’t put my finger on it just not feeling great, midwife saw me and said I didn’t look well. Baby arrived 4 days later at 36 weeks.

I lost my mucus plug 2 weeks exactly before Labour started, and had a bloody show in the morning, Labour started by that night. Born just over 39 weeks, spontaneous labour.

I had cramps, thought I had food poisoning. Nope, was in labour at 31 weeks which quickly escalated to an EMCS.

Coffeeishot · 10/09/2025 12:34

I had loose bowels then tighteningsI was 28ish weeks. I was in labour which was halted my waters didn't break. Had my baby at 35 weeks

Had my baby at 29 weeks- had awful back pain for a few days beforehand.

Literally from 6 weeks I knew my pregnancy was different. I had a SCH and loads of bleeding, that tailed off approx 19 weeks and HG was kicking my backside the entire time. By 25 weeks, I knew something was off, I was constantly dizzy, feeling faint, barely any movement. I got struck down with Covid in week 26 and by week 28 my bump was measuring 19 weeks, blood flow to the placenta wasn’t the best. The next week something didn’t feel right at all, I couldn’t settle and I hadn’t felt any movement. Pushed to be assessed, they tried to send me home saying ctg was fine and I argued to stay and have continuous monitoring. Thank god I did, baby was born early hours of that morning following prolonged decels 🙈

I had back cramps like before a period for a day or two, then it went away for day, then it came back next morning and gradually increased, then i realised I was in labour. Delivered at 38 weeks.
