Hi are gel nails allowed during planned c section? Not fake nails, just gel polish ?

You'd have to ask your anaesthetist
The reason they probably don't allow for it is because they check the capillary refil on your nail beds if things were to start going south.
Some will allow it as its planned and therefore less risk than an emergency but others would Err on the side of caution im sure

I was told nothing on nails was allowed.

I had a section in May. They checked my nails prior and commented on being pleased that they were bare 😆

So, no gels unfortunately.

All the best for the birth x

@justaddittothelist thank you ☺️ congratulations on your little one. Has the section recovery been ok? I am
getting terrified. 🙈😂

I had a GA for abdominal surgery 4 weeks ago and I wasn’t asked to remove my nail polish. I asked a nurse about it and she said it wasn’t necessary these days.

I have had 2 planned sections. Both times I was asked to have bare nails.

Recovery was grand for both. I have not even used pain relief after. The first time because I preferred to stay in NICU than to back to the ward for it, and the second because I was grand first time without it.

I had planned surgery last year and was told to have one bare nail so they could attach something to it? But I took them all off for safety. I am also a nail tech and had a client have emergency surgery recently who had no problems/comments about her biab.

Ideally no, we've kinda had to put up with it though as noone seems to listen to our requests anymore.

It's because it stops our probes that measure your oxygen levels can't detect through nail polish. We can get clips to go on your ear lobe if we have to

Bare nails was on my preparation list.
(Don’t worry about the section, nothing to be scared of.)
