High bmi and folic acid

I found out the other day im pregnant. ( I had not taken folic acid during the time of conception until finding out as I was unwell after ivf treatment. I spontaneously conceived during treatment ) Prior to that I had taken 400ug. i think I'm about 5 weeks now.
I've been reading that a higher bmi requires a higher dose of folic acid. I'm now stressing that I haven't been taking folic acid and now that I am, it's a low dose. It says gp can prescribe 5mg but my gp is making me wait weeks for a telephone appointment.

Just wondering has everyone with a higher bmi been advised to take higher dose? My bmi is currently 34

I’m pregnant with DC2 and my BMI is 31. My GP told me the NICE guidance has changed and they don’t automatically advise higher dose folic acid for BMI >30 now, only if you have other additional risk factors for neural tube defects in baby.

Here’s a link which tells you more including what the additional risks include - https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/pre-conception-advice-management/management/advice-for-all-women/#advice-on-folic-acid

Hey another BMI queen here lol I'm on the 5mg of folic acid, was taking the regular amount before hand. The hospital prescribed it for during my booking appointment when I was approx 8 weeks so it's worth getting in touch to ask their advice if your GP will take too long

Do you need a telephone appointment? Could you just tell the receptionist that you’re pregnant and need a prescription for higher dose folic acid and ask if the GP can do the prescription? Time is of the essence really.

With my first I didn’t tell the GP till I was about 7.5 weeks and they just prescribed it then. I had some left over so started taking it asap when I found out about my second.
