Worried about BV or something else?

Hi

I’m currently 28 weeks and panicking about BV. Since the start of my pregnancy I’ve had increased discharge, off colour to pre pg but no smell or pain when weeing. A little irritation on my skin but nothing like thrush and it comes and goes so I put this down to having constant discharge.
I have had to wear a panty liner most days. I did mention this to my midwife at my apt (about increased discharge) and she didn’t seem concerned or ask any more questions.

Today I noticed the colour was a little more off than it has been… I bought a self test kit from boots and it came back green/positive for BV or trich which I’d never even heard of until today!! (Trich not BV)
Now I’m worried I’ve had this weeks and weeks and not known and caused harm to my baby or even myself.

Has anyone had this in pregnancy? How do they treat at this stage? I’ve read mixed feedback on that re antibiotics. Also, did you reach out to your midwife for a proper swab? I’m worried I won’t get in to see her tomorrow then I’ll be waiting over the weekend for results. Should I go to a STI clinic?
Don’t want to use the canesten BV treatment until it’s confirmed really.

Having a huge panic!

I wouldn’t panic, I had similar when I was pregnant and pretty sure I had bv on and off but I didn’t do anything to treat it and my baby is fine. It probably is positive for the bv and not trich if you’re not having pain when weeing. It’s a good thing if your midwife wasn’t concerned when you mentioned about increased discharge. What colour was your discharge today when you felt it was a little more off? Could you speak to a pharmacist about it maybe if you’re worried? I don’t see the harm going to an STI clinic if you are worried or call up and see if they have any advice? They not to worry too much I’m sure it’ll be fine!

Thanks for your response! That has reassured me a bit as I feel horrendously guilty right now.

Without being TMI it was definitely green tinged, more so than I’ve seen it. It’s been a more yellow ish colour previously or perhaps I’ve been in denial. Because it hasn’t had any smell/pain I’ve been telling myself it’s just pregnancy so I feel a bit stupid now.

I might try and see the midwife tomorrow and if I can’t go to the clinic. I’m not sure if they can tell just by looking? As know they’ll need to swab and send off too I imagine?

@SB1712
No worries! I can understand why you’re worried when it’s been green tinged today and to be honest if it were me I’d think the same too that it is just pregnancy as pregnancy causes all these strange things to happen! Mine was more yellowish in colour too and I had increased discharge throughout my pregnancy. Don’t feel stupid though and you’re on the case trying to figure out what it is and see if there’s any treatment so you’re doing all you can. It’s a good sign you’re not getting any pain and no smell too.

I think what you said is the best plan, I’m not sure if they can tell by just looking either, take pictures as gross as it may be so you can show them too. I would have thought they might need a swab to send off but if they are that concerned they will obviously tell you what is best there and then but I really doubt they will be that concerned and your baby won’t be affected by any of it. Try not to stress and I hope you get some answers tomorrow and are reassured all is ok 😊

I had a Boots test that showed I might have BV pre pregnancy when I was doing IVF, and got my GP to arrange a swab test for me, which came back within a couple of days, I imagine your midwife could arrange this, or try your GP, it was an easy self swab test I did.
