Pramsuit for November Baby - what size?

Hello! Our baby is due mid November and am thinking about a pramsuit only for use in the pram when out on walks in cold and wet weather. I’m unsure what size to get! I feel newborn might be a waste of time as I can’t see us going out for walks in those conditions in the early days, but perhaps 0-3 is better? also any thoughts on pramsuits in general would be helpful. I’m aware of not using in the car seat!
Thanks

I would only buy something like that when your baby is already here and you know exactly how long he/she is, and also exactly what the winter is like! Maybe you won't feel like any wintry walks for a month and by then he/she might have grown out of it (I speak from experience 😆)

Definitely wait until baby is here. You’ll have time to order one when you know the size you need. Having said that, my baby stayed in pramsuits until at least April, so a 0-3 months will definitely be used at some point.

Wouldn’t buy until they’re here - you can buy them anywhere including supermarkets. I found mine more hassle than it was worth for a small baby, layers, blankets and a warm liner for the pram bassinet worked better! If you’re baby wearing in a sling, a coat you can zip over baby is great!

I used pramsuits more when baby was in a proper carrier rather than a stretchy wrap sling.

I have just brought some in a couple of sizes off Vinted. They go pretty cheap there and anything that doesn’t get used much can be sold on. My main requirement was one with 2 zips as they should be easier to get on. Star wraps are good too but maybe not warm enough for the middle of winter.

Depends on the size of your baby and how quick growing they are. My daughter was 10 weeks before she fitted into 0-3 months and 5 and a half months before she went into 3-6 months!
She was also 4 and a half months before she would go in the pram for more than 2 and a half minutes before crying and needing to be moved to the sling.

I wouldnt buy at all, i never used them.

Buy a Tuppence and Crumble star wrap. Their sizes are 0-6m / 6-12m i think so more generous. If its a really cold winter, you can get a pramsuit as well, but star wraps are quicker and easier to put on / off, you can layer up with blankets / hats and they are safer if you have baby in a carrier.

I also found layers better - they’re too small for pram suits really IMO.

I had a ‘starsnug fleece’ which was q good and usable in a variety of scenarios.

Unless you live somewhere really bloody cold, don’t bother. Wait till they’re I’d needed. Mine never wore a pram suit.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 31/08/2025 16:34

Don't bother if it's just for the pram - just put them in a vest, babygro and cardi and then add blanket(s) and a hat. It's much easier when out and about as you can whip off the blanket whenever you need to to stop the baby getting too hot (eg if you pop into a shop).

Pramsuits rank very high on the list of very cute but completely useless items for me!

Got given a few as gifts with my DC and have had a baby in November so understand to season. But never actually managed to find a situation in which we could use them. Other than a quick thankyou photo to the giver.

cant use in car can’t use in carrier can’t use in sling, can’t use indoors, can’t really use a hood, can’t use them for overnight sleeps. And tend to actually fit for about ten minutes! They are VERY cute so I understand your desire to buy one!
