Wtf is this? Chat gpt is scaring me telling me that I could have it and not know and therefore not absorb folic acid properly and increase the risk of NTDs. Is this correct? I feel very worried now as I only started folic acid when I found out I was pregnant.

It's a gene and enzyme, usually talked to in regards to a mutation, which is pretty rare (so highly unlikely you have it!). Please please please step away from Dr Google. It will only make your anxiety spiral. The overwhelming likelihood is that you are absolutely fine x

You must have asked a few questions for chat gpt to give you that. What do you think people do who have surprise pregnancies all their children would have NTD. In the nicest way you need to get a grip, you’re taking it now so it doesn’t matter if you didn’t before. If you go looking for negative answers that’s what you will find

If you're concerned, take a prenatal with methylfolate, rather than synthetic folate, in it as that's the type better absorbed by people with MTHFR and you're covering your bases

Thank you, I started taking methylfolate today. Not sure how far gone I am but hopefully it will help. The internet can be great but today I have learned my lesson to stay away from Dr Chat GPT!
