I had Yo Sushi from Tesco, two maki roll pieces with raw salmon in the middle.

I am now panicking as remembered you can’t have this pregnant.

Some sources say supermarket grade is okay because it’s frozen EXCEPT the salmon 🫠

I’ve been sick on and off since 6 weeks so now worried I won’t know what’s pregnancy sickness and what’s an issue! :(

My view would be, best to avoid foods on the no go list, but ultimately you've eaten it now. It's in the past and it's nothing you can change.

Plus the chance of anything happening is tiny.

Japanese women have babies too. They are perfectly ok

MidnightPatrol · 30/08/2025 19:52

The advice on sushi is now that as long as the fish has been frozen it is fine to eat raw.

And any supermarket sushi in the UK will be from frozen fish.

Chestnutsincoming · 30/08/2025 20:05

@MidnightPatrol so supermarket sushi is frozen but not sure if that includes Yo Sushi or just own brand stuff? It was salmon and I don’t think that’s frozen first. Should I try and throw it up or is that silly?

That would be really silly.
It's fine. You're fine.
Just accept it's happened and move on.

MidnightPatrol · 30/08/2025 20:11

A one line google tells me yo sushi use frozen salmon.

I have eaten lots of sushi while pregnant, I think it’s generally very safe in the UK. I wouldn’t be worried at all.

Chestnutsincoming · 30/08/2025 20:16

Okay I’ve lost the plot 🤣 I won’t try and be sick. I’ve done some more research and from 2007 some salmon didn’t require freezing due to farming (which makes it safe?). So I’m hoping it’s ok and will just avoid in future x

I think all sushi fish here is pre-frozen, especially any sold in supermarkets or sushi counters. The freezing kills any parasites which might be in the fish.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 30/08/2025 20:24

I wouldn't overly worry. These guidelines are just precautions in case something goes wrong, it doesn't mean it definitely will every time you eat raw fish. Chances are you are perfectly fine. Tesco is a reputable store too. If you want to, you could mention it to you doctor at your next appointment but I would focus on the here and now and how you actually feel at the moment. And remember, it is normal to have sickness early on in pregnancy certaintly, I know I did

MyLivelyAquaBeaker · 30/08/2025 20:46

As others have said sushi-grade fish basically means frozen first! I’ve had loads of sushi during this pregnancy and can’t wait for smoked salmon - seems to be riskier.

MrsKateColumbo · 30/08/2025 20:47

You'll be completely fine but it's normal to worry x

Kaybee1989 · 30/08/2025 21:07

I’m sure you’ll be fine. When I was pregnant I caught Norovirus, I was vomiting & pooping violently at the same time for 16 hours solid. My stomach muscles, back muscles and chest were so sore from retching etc I was terrified that I had hurt my baby, but the doctor said not to worry, that baby is in a safe little bag and the tensing doesn’t affect them especially earlier on in the pregnancy!
Just try to stay away from the no go list foods from here on out and forget all about this slip up 💖👍🏻

Orangewillow · 30/08/2025 22:29

Echoing others but it'll be fine! It's very low risk anyway that anything would happen, and it's likely frozen. Also farmed salmon is I believe individually inoculated and then ok (this is based on info I got about itsu sushi, so may not apply universally in UK, but it wouldn't shock me if it was similar somewhere like tesco)

Radiatorvalves · 30/08/2025 22:40

I got terribly sick when 6 weeks pregnant about 20 years ago… I’d had scallops and very rare steak in France. I was sick repeatedly. It wasn’t pleasant but I recovered. Baby was fine. And now is 6” and abroad at uni.

you’ll be fine.

Panicatthegarden · 30/08/2025 22:44

Before I found out I was pregnant with my first I absolutely gorged myself on raw sashimi, there was a deal on when you could get three small plates for £X amount and sashimi was one of the options so I ordered it three times over 😂 All was fine!
