Was your water already broken? How were you induced? Xx

There was a thread yesterday or day before about inductions. I think it was about 50/50 positive/negative.

Mine was fine. Gel inserted, waters broke by themselves an hour later, 6 hours after that he was out. No issues. I was 39+4.

I was induced at 42 weeks by having my waters broken. Baby was out exactly 2 hours later.

No, waters wouldn't break which is why I was induced. Baby was distressed. I can't remember, it's been so long ago, but think it was a mixture of prostaglandins and oxytocin via IV.

It seems that inductions go better if the gel/ pessary is enough to get you going. The drip is where it gets hairy. If they want to put you on the drip get an epidural. I’ve felt natural contractions and contractions on the drip and they are VERY different beasts.

Get bouncing on a ball, walking around the hospital. You might be able to get contractions started naturally. My waters broke early one morning with DD1, i had to stay in hospital after getting checked in triage due to BP but i just walked and bounced all day and managed to get my contractions to start naturally 🥳

Do you know whether you have Group B Strep? If you havent had a test in pregnancy (not all areas test as routine), please ask about GBS risk and whether you need any antibiotics as a precaution. I was not given any but my DD did develop a GBS infection - for DD2 i made sure to get the antiobiotics and all was good!

Good luck!

induction because your waters have gone but nothing else has happened is usually a bit different to inductions to get started from nothing. Your scenario sounds more like an 'augmentation' process. They'll go through things when you get there, but generally people having augmentation are less likely to be spending forever having pessaries and whatnot and are more likely to start the hormone drip. If you're looking for ways to kill time before then, the labourpains.org website has lots of info about pain relief in labour and a bunch of other useful things (it's run by the obstetric anaesthetists association so is a reliable source of objective info).

I wanted a home birth with my first but labour was very slow so I was transferred to hospital for “augmentation”. The midwife suggested that I have a think about pain relief as inductions are known to be a very different beast. I opted straight for an epidural before they even started the hormone drip! The midwife was somewhat shocked that I’d gone for that but readily agreed!

Waters broke at home around 11pm. Having on and off contractions but not regular e ought so induced with pessary at 8pm the following day. Midwife said cervix was closed and posterior so would probably need to have the drip. While waiting for transfer to labour ward, contractions ramped up. By around midnight I was 6cm dilated and taken straight to labour ward! Baby was born at 4.45am. So definitely a positive induction story here!

Good luck and hope everything goes smoothly for you!

I was induced at 37 weeks after my waters went at 34 weeks.

One dose of the internal gel kicked things off right away, and she was born 11 hours later without me having to have any more interventions.
