Pregnant with DC3 at 41

Hi all,

I've just found out I'm pregnant with DC3. I'm 41 and have 2 beautiful boys who are 3.5 and 10 months. I have a history of losses before and in between my boys, I'm trying not to dwell too much on this and currently feeling more full of hope than full of dread (anyone with a previous loss, you'll know what I mean!) which is nice. I'm realistic about higher risk with age etc. I'm lucky to have a really supportive DH and we've decided to take this a day/ week at a time rather than think to far ahead for now. But yeah...eek!

Anyone else in a similar boat?? Or been here and come out the other side?

I’m 42 on Tuesday and I had a positive test last Saturday. We’ve got a DD who is 6. I’m worried sick as tests are faint still but trying to keep positive. Congratulations ❤️

@Iris2024 tentative congratulations to you. It's so tough in these early days when there's so little control over the outcome isn't it. Sending you positive vibes. How many weeks are you? I'm only 4 weeks and 1 day, I'm hoping having 2 little ones will be a big distraction from thinking about it too much!!

I’m 4 weeks 2 days today. My tests are light today so I’m gearing myself up to miscarry. My birthday on Tuesday too. I’ll be 42. So cruel. We’ve tried so hard for this baby. Sending so much love your way for a healthy pregnancy.

@Iris2024 oh I'm so sorry, that's so hard. I've been there. I hope there are brighter times ahead. I'm not sure if my test was marginally lighter this morning too. I'm going to try and avoid doing any more, but will see. Sending love to you x

45 next month, 37+2 with DC no.4 after over 10 consecutive losses. Natural conception.

Your approach is correct, take it a day at a time, no expectations and look after yourself and each other.

Try and remember that a light test doesn’t necessarily mean a loss. For now, you're pregnant. That's it. I know it's incredibly worrying and the anxiety and overthinking is insane.

@Amuseaboosh congratulations on your precious DC4 pregnancy after such a challenging journey. Not long until little one is here 🙏
I'm trying not to do too much planning ahead with things atm, just with stuff like registering with the midwife I think I'll leave it another week or 2. Did you get any early scans? The only thing we've thought is that we might get a private NIPT test at 10 weeks if we get that far which includes a scan.

I had A LOT of early scans due to history, my age and then my own anxieties.
6 weeks - private
8 weeks - EPU NHS
10 weeks - NIPT plus scan private
12 weeks - NHS
14, 16, 18 - private
20 weeks - NHS
22, 24 - private
Then we stopped.

I know the scans were a lot in my 1st and 2nd trimester but they kept me sane and balanced. Every time I had a positive scan, I was able to relax for a little while.

From 30 weeks we've been having growth scans with the hospital.

The NIPT was critical for me because I knew it was going to inform my decision on next steps. We went private because it was quicker and more accurate than the NHS test.

@Amuseaboosh I don't blame you for getting them so regularly! You've just got to do whatever helps you, right. I've got mixed feeling about early scans from having previous losses picked up at them. With DS2 I almost didn't go at 8 weeks as couldn't face it. But equally you know where you stand more quickly and that's why I went, but as it turned out it was fine that time! I expect we'll end up getting a first scan privately at 8 weeks if we get that far but I've just said to DH let's just book it last minute nearer the time. Yes, same with private NIPT for us too, we had a high risk result for DS2 from our NHS 12 week bloods with NHS and we then did NHS NIPT and it was an incredibly anxiety provoking 2 weeks. So we always said if there's a next time we'd do it privately and early.
