Positive Tests but Negative Bloods

Hi,
I done 2 Pregnancy Tests one being a ClearBlue Digital and the other being a cheapie. The cheapie was a faint line and the Digital read Pregnancy 1-2
Went to the doctors and they done bloods on me and the bloods have come back as 5, and he said this is not pregnant.

Any one know what has happened here, he said it may be some ovarian cyst that is secreting small amounts of HCG, but ive never heard of this before. I am planning on doing another test before the weekend finishes.

Anyone ever have this happen before. I'm absolutely terrified as, we have just reared our 19 year old son, we are both 41 years old, I only have 1 tube, in peri menopause the last 2 years with no periods and a AMH of 0.02 so I thought that conception was going to be literally impossible.

Any advices please 🙏

Yes, some ovarian cysts can lead to false positive tests. The blood test will be the most accurate, so the doctor would be correct in informing you you’re not pregnant and likely to have an ovarian cyst. This happened to my sister, it was a corpus luteum cyst. Have they offered you an ultrasound? These cysts are very common and they mostly go away on their own.

Please try not to worry, they mostly sort themselves out by your next period.

Hey, i don't get periods, and he never mentioned anything about an ultrasound. I think I'm going to ring on Monday to request one

That could be an evap as it looks very thin. Have you tried a Boots early pregnancy one, or even Clear and Simple - pink years are much easier to interpret and aren’t so prone to evaps. I take it you have no idea if/when you ovulated?

I done a Clear & Simple on Wednesday, I'll try attach a pic along with the Digital.
I live about 20 minutes away from my nearest Boots so I'll try get one before the week is out

I wouldn’t keep doing the tests as it won’t really tell you anything about the cyst. It is looking very faint though, so it could be that the cyst is breaking down naturally.

Did the doctor give you any advice about managing the cyst? Most will go within a month or so, have they told you to keep testing until it does? I would request new bloods in a week’s time.

Please try not to worry, they usually sort themselves out on their own and the test is just showing it’s still there, not that it’s increasing in size if that’s what you are worried about.

Hi, no he just said that the pregnancy bloods was 5, and that my progesterone was low as well. Never mentioned anything about repeat bloods or a scan. I'm going to book in with my usual doctor, as she wasn't available the day I was getting my bloods done & see can she refer me for a scan or something as I've honestly never heard of this happening before.

5 hcg is technically pregnant, you shouldn't have any hcg without implantation happening of an embryo. I had my bloods done early as was ivf and it was something like 7 and confirmed pregnancy, had them again a few days later and had risen exponentially and continued to.

Saying that reading up on ovarian cysts it could just be that, worth getting it checked have you any syntpoms of cysts?

Imisscoffee2021 · 30/08/2025 21:07

Edited as read further update so progesterone not as relevant.

BigBirdOfPrey · 30/08/2025 21:08

What lead you to do the tests???

Elaney11 · 30/08/2025 21:38

@BigBirdOfPrey I am supposed to be getting a CT scan done and the consultant wanted me to do a pregnancy test, to confirm I wasn't pregnant. Needless to say I got some shock when these come up positive

@Imisscoffee2021 absoutely no symptoms of cysts. Only symptoms I have is my breasts are a little sore and definitely bigger. Tummy is a little tender as well.
I am definitely going to ring back on Monday to get them to repeat the bloods or to refer me for a scan to see what is happening
