IVF 6.5 weeks scan no heartbeat

Hello! I had IVF and went to my clinic for my first scan last week when I was 6.5 weeks (internal scan). I was feeling very optimistic as I’ve had no bleeding and had quite a few pregnancy symptoms like sore breasts and fatigue. The doctor found the gestational sac, yolk sac and embryo but no heartbeat. She asked me to come back this week (tomorrow) and I have been feeling so low and terrified this week. I was measuring 4 days behind so 6+1 day. Just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience and things turned out to be okay? I am really scared of this scan tomorrow :(

There's still hope. I had a scan at 6 weeks and no heartbeat, went back at 8 and it was there. 6 weeks is the very earliest there could be a heartbeat so pretty common for it not to be there at 6 weeks I think? Fingers crossed for you OP

What a horrible limbo!

It's reassuring there was a yolk sac and embryo, this does reduce the risk of this being a missed miscarriage.

6 weeks is early for a viability scan, some people see a heartbeat at 6 weeks but many don't and then go on to have a heartbeat at 7 weeks.

I wouldn't worry too much about being 4 days out, every pregnancy is different and it's really common for IVF pregnancies to not follow dates.

It's one of those 'could go either way' situations. Be kind to yourself, you've made it through an awful week.

Update: my scan went really well! Baby caught up and is now measuring 7 weeks + 4 days and had a strong heartbeat! It was such an amazing, special and emotional day! Posting here in case it helps someone who’s stuck in that horrible limbo - it was so stressful but there is definitely hope!!!! Thank you so much to everyone who replied to my post and helped me stay positive

We’re about to start IVF and I had a miscarriage last year after we found out the baby had stopped growing at 6weeks. I am so happy to hear this! I really really needed this update and wish you all the best!!
