Had some lasagna I cooked earlier but left out to cool. I was meant to stick it in the oven but I’m worried it wasn’t hot enough when I did take it out. It had dairy in the sauce. Worried about listeria and it not being heated as the bechamel sauce was still milky and the lasagna sheets tasted warm not pipping. Anyone have any advice for someone anxious about listeria? The sauce was made with pasteurized milk but it had reached room temp.

thanks.

I don’t think you need to worry. How far along are you?

Maxorias · 26/08/2025 03:22

How long ago was the lasagna made and how long was it at room temperature ?

Honestly I wouldn't worry - listeria doesn't just appear the minute you take something off the fire or out of the fridge. But I understand the anxiety.

It was made a few hours+ earlier by a friend who was waiting for them to cool before she stuck them in the fridge. I thought it was two hours earlier but I’m realizing it may have been longer after speaking to her. I’m in my final trimester and heard it has like a 60% transfer rate to the baby if you do contract it.

I stuck it in the oven after refrigerating it for like 30 mins it did steam a bit but it didn’t taste hot hot

As always on these listeria threads, you'll be fine

QuaintSwan · 26/08/2025 03:52

Well you've already eaten it, so...

It's probably fine.

Here is what I never understand in the many many MANY threads on this. If people are SO worried about Listeria why do they still eat whatever it is they’re worried about? Why does this only cross people’s minds AFTER they’ve eaten whatever it is? If you’re worried, don’t eat it in the first place surely?? If it didn’t taste that hot and you’re worried, why not heat it further before finishing it? I just find it odd.
