5 weeks pregnant worried about lines

I am currently 5 weeks +2 with an IVF pregnancy. I previously had a miscarriage at 6 weeks last October so am very anxious. I have been worried my lines haven’t been getting darker. Weirdly, part of the line seems to be getting darker but not the whole thing :( and when I first did the test yesterday it looked darker than when I looked at it this morning. Same test, just first photo taken with first 10 minutes, second photo taken the next morning. Any advice would be great :(

Congratulations!

My first is an IVF baby!

Clear blue aren't the best to be totally honest.
I would get some pink dye tests.

How many HCG blood tests do you get done at your clinic?

ScaryM0nster · 20/08/2025 08:56

Pregnancy tests are not designed to be quantitative.

They're engineered to identify hcg in the liquid, and bind a marker ink to a ‘catcher’ line on the absorbent material.

How strong the line is will depend on how much ‘ink’ is in that particular test, how much total liquid is absorbs, the concentration of hcg in the urine and other factors.

Concentration of hcg in urine isn’t a reflection of pregnancy progression. It’s a reflection of your urine composition.

Think a pint glass. Put a splash of squash concentrate in it and half fill it with water. Strong squash. Same splash, but fill with water. Weak squash. Same amount of squash (hcg).

@Sunshineclouds11 thank you so much, I’m just so scared I’m finding it hard to concentrate on anything else. I’m on holiday at the moment so can’t get any other tests as this is all they had in the local pharmacy. :( no blood tests, just a scan at 7 weeks which is still 2 weeks away so I think I’m testing to believe it’s still there.

@ScaryM0nster thank you for this analogy, my other half will be grateful for having something to remind myself of and hopefully put my mind at ease over!

I’ve just never heard of tests getting lighter the longer you leave them, normally I thought they got darker?

I know exactly how you're feeling.
My advise would be to test every other day as that's when HCG rises.
