Hi,

38 weeks and 2 days. For the last week I’ve felt lots of somersaults and barrel rolls which have been very uncomfortable! 😣 lots of ouch moments on my bladder. I can see my bump moving etc
Baby very active and really punching me.

however I’ve noticed today that baby is still moving but it’s no longer punches or pressure on my bladder. I’m not jumping about uncomfortable. Movements just feel less strong.

so I’m having movements but nothing like they’ve been.

should I be worried? Should I call the hospital?

thank you x

I have days when I get violent movements where it feels like he's trying to escape and days when the movements are much gentler. I'm 33 weeks at the moment.

I'm being seen at the moment at maternity triage frequently and I was having a quiet day and when told the midwife this and she didn't bat an eyelid. I was put on the ctg monitor for other reasons and got the green light in 10-15 minutes.

That said, don't take my "it's normal" as normal for you and if you have any concerns about changes in movements do give maternity triage a call for advice and guidance.

Thank you.
i rang the hospital and the midwife was great. She said that it’s not the strength of the kicks but the regularity. She asked if movements have reduced in the last day compared to prior to the very uncomfortable barrel rolls and I’m not sure.
it’s hard because I’m so used to the uncomfortable jabs I don’t really remember the movements before that.

im going to sit quietly and count the movements and if I’m not happy we’ll go in and be seen

I’m nearly 40 weeks pregnant and I feel like for the past few weeks the movements changed in the same way you’re describing. He used to do big kicks but then they died down and it’s more pressure or a bit of a movement that is less violent.
I do think it’s probably to do with their positions having changed (maybe getting their head engaged etc) and generally having way less space to actually move their legs around to kick properly.
I’ve also found it hard to tell if the movements have changed each day as I don’t get a chance to monitor them at the same time each day. But when I do spend a moment to sit quietly I can usually feel him do a little movement at least.
Always good to get checked out though if worried!

Babies do not have less space, any changes in what is normal movements for your baby should be properly checked out.

Never ever hurts to get checked, it's generally fine but always better to be safe. Hope all is well

MissSkate · 16/08/2025 07:14

Please go in and get checked. If you're worried enough to ask here, that's worried enough to go get checked. It's not just the regularity of movements that you're looking for its also changes to movements

All fine. She got really busy yesterday evening. She is kicking away but I’ll be vigilant.
