EPU Scan - Confused about Sub-Chorionic Haematoma

I had an early scan at the EPU today following some spotting earlier in the week. Very happy that baby is measuring correctly, 6 weeks possibly 6+5 according to the doctor which lines up with my dates, got to see the heartbeat flicker and doctor said it was strong 😊

They explained the spotting was due to a tiny tear from where baby had ‘floated down’ in my womb but had no concerns. They said the scan also showed a sub chorionic haematoma which may be reabsorbed or which may cause bleeding, and to keep an eye on it, next scan will be 12 weeks.

I’ve had a previous loss so any mention of potential future bleeding is obviously a concern. I’m beyond happy baby is ok but has anyone been diagnosed with a haematoma before and things been ok?

I had SCH and my research at the time produced a huge range of responses - including women who had "bleeding" from SCH throughout their pregnancies and delivered healthy babies and went on to have more, and women whose pregnancies with SCH ended in miscarriage (including me but I went on to have a healthy baby in the next pregnancy)

They used to advise bed rest for them but that's no longer the protocol. I would take it easy though if that's possible.

Wishing you the best.

I had one. All fine im 20 weeks now and had no spotting pr bleeding from it. It just absorbed into my womb. I think they are common just that people who have early scans can pick up on them. Mine was gone by 12 weeks xx

Had one with my first and also went to EPU had spotting for about 6 weeks. With my current pregnancy also had one and spotted for 9ish weeks. Both times no sign of the sch at the 12 week scan as they just sort themselves out. Any spotting is scary I know, but hope all goes well with you - doesn't sound like they're the least bit worried xxx

I had one of these which worried me no end x my daughter is 14 now xx I did have 3 tiny bleeds which is why I had the very early scan.

I'm on my 2nd SCH of this pregnancy, 14 weeks tomorrow. I'm an IVF pregnancy and apparently they're even more common, but they don't know why. The first one I spotted mostly brown from 4-8 weeks with a couple of alarming bursts of red, but from week 8 until 2 days ago, nothing, then woke up I the night bleeding red, stronger than any period I've ever had bleeding, freaked out. Had a scan at my EPU and they said its a small haematoma, it'll bleed out but nothing to do about it and not to worry. I've read online if they're very large it can be a problem potentially, but every scanner I've seen about it has been very relaxed. It's scary though to have any kind of bleeding!
