Induction methods

I have very limited knowledge of all the induction methods, but I’ve been given the option of having one for my third baby who’s measuring very large.

Im researching options before making a decision and would love to know people’s experience with each method.

Has anyone had an induction (especially for 2/3/4th babies) that work quickly? If I can avoid being in hospital for 2+ days before it kicks in that would be great! Lol

Has just a sweep, balloon and the ARM worked for anyone? The artificial hormones scare me! I’ve had an unmedicated natural birth before which was painful enough, but luckily was so fast I had no choice but to cope with it. It’s a big fear to be in so much pain for such a long time and then need an epidural (I feel like having an epidural in a previous labour was a factor to needing forceps which lead to a traumatic PPH following internal injury)

thanks

I had one with my second. I just needed a dose of the internal gel, it started things off straight away, and she was born 11 hours later. It wasn’t any more painful than my first I don’t think. I was 37 weeks, but my waters had leaked a bit at 34 weeks so I was induced.

The only thing I had in my head going in was that if I needed the drip, I was not having it until I had an epidural actually administered and working. Not promised, not “you can have it soon”, not “let’s see how you do” but actually in my back otherwise I’d refuse consent for the drip. I’d read too many awful things about it. But I didn’t need it so was all good.

Another vote for the internal gel.

Inserted and 8 hours later baby was there. No pain relief or interventions, no complications.
