Any cheapo, reliable preg tests?

Not going to start a whole 'am I preg?' thread as I know the answer is to take a test. Just realised this morn it's been 40 days from my last period and it's freaked me out. Don't want to spend a fortune on preg tests as since coming off the pill, my periods have been all over the place and have already taken a couple in the previous months. Has anyone taken a cheap preg test that they found worked and what were they? Or am I better spending a tenner for peace of mind?

yes i did. i got 5 early detection kits from babymad.com for about 3 quid. they arrived the morning after i ordered them. i wasnt panning on testing for another 4 days but as i had so many and they were so cheap i ended up doing one straight away. it came up positive and so i did all 5!!!!

Oh, I've never of them before. Don't know if I could hold off til tomorrow though. In saying that, the rate I'm going through preg tests they may be good for the future

tesco, the positive line came up before i'd had chance to pull my knickers up

poundland do 3 for £1 and i used them and they are ok.

Don't think we have poundland here - live in N.Ireland. Think I'll be heading to tescos then today, although I'm going to look like a silly woman pushing a pram with a 7 month old and buying a preg test Thank you so much ladies, keep your fingers crossed for a -ve for me.

boots ones are good and reasonably cheap I used one this time when I was only just due af and I got a positive.

Eh inzidoodle - I didn't think you could get false positives. Very strange!

I second Tescos. About £3.99 for 2 I think. I got a (very faint) positive several days before my period was due.

Yep Tesco again! I had a positive within seconds on a test taken at lunchtime only 13 days post conception!

Tescos it definately is then. Good to know it works so early as I had cramps about two wks ago which I'm thinking now could either have been ovulation or implantation (have been preg twice and always had slight period type cramps when that happens). You're all scaring me with your positives though - hope it isn't a sign of whats to come!

Access Diagnostics have these that work out pretty cheap and certainly claim to be very reliable (I've got some, but haven't really had cause to use them in anger yet...)

If you're a couple of weeks past period then even the least reliable should give a result. ASDA ones are pretty sensitive and I've used them a lot in the past. Savers chemist do £1 ones which I've had no bother with either. I think a lot depends on the sample you use - make sure it's a good strong wee!

You can get false positives in so much as you can get evaporation lines which look very similar to a line. I've had a few evaporation lines and convinced myself I'm pregnant. Make sure you read the test within the time they say.

It's a negative!! Thank you tescos and thank you for the replies! Don't think I could have handled getting pregnant again so soon after having one. I have learnt my lesson. Sex = problems!

yeah, i got one at tesco for £1.99 - I think it was on sale, but they are really cheap anyway. It showed up clearly pregnant two days before my period was even due (and wasn't early detection either)

Hi Bunni, I'm not sure whether to say congratulations or not, but as long as it was the result you were after - good news!

Try looking on ebay for tests. I got 10 test stripd for less than £5 and they do work. I had a positive result when I was just one day late, although I did have to do two more before DP would believe it...!

I bought the cheapest one in the chemist at £2.99 cos the pharmacist said they're all the same. There was 2 strips in there, both positive within a second of weeing on them! Don't bother with the more expensive ones as you're paying for the brand, nothing else!

I used a cheap 2 for a pound test and although the first line was faint, it was correct, when I did the second test a week later, the line was much stronger. As someone else said, make sure your wee is strong, try to do it first thing in the morning.

One I deffo won't use again, though I should never need to again, is Tesco's own ones.
I used one when I was 2 weeks late and it said neg. so I merrily wenting on and got battered at a aprty and 2 weeks later, still no AF as i was preg the whole time!
