anyone got any ideas of where to find other mums-to-be in south west london? I'm 25 and non of my friends are anywhere near having babies and I'm desperate to have a few friendly faces to turn to by the dc1 arrives in october...I'm based in Streatham but can't find any mums-2-be classes (NCT is way too expensive for us), I do pregnancy yoga but the women are all at least 10 years odler than me and we don't really talk before, during or after sessions....lonely!

Hi there

Wanted to suggest seeing whether there are any NHS post-natal groups in your area. This is where I made all my baby friends in the end!

Also once the baby has come there are loads of opportunities to make friends at library "rhyme-times" baby groups and so on. I found it easier to make friends once the baby actually came as cooing over each others babies is a real ice breaker.

I am sure you will make plenty of friends while pregnant, but I bet by the time baby is a couple of months old you will have so many friends you won't have time for them all!

let's do 7th at noon in kingston a specific place anyone?
my email is [email protected]

MissingMyHeels · 29/05/2008 12:25

Oooh I wish I was pregnant at the same time as all you local ladies, my DD is 10 weeks now and I live in Epsom also first of my friends to have a baby.

However, after various classes, MN I do have a group of Mums to socialise with, you may find things fall into place later in pregnancy.

My best friend is pregnant and based in Brixton so may point her in your direction as that is nice and near Streatham!

mum2b1 · 29/05/2008 13:22

Kingston on the 7th at 12 midday is good for me too.

How about at one of the costas or well anywhere really. I guess it depends what the weather is to if we have to be inside or can venture out....

How will we know each other.....other than big bumps hehehe

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 14:23

Good point mum2b1 - maybe we should wear red carnations!

How about meeting at the Costa in the market place. Thats the only one I can think of at the moment.

Oblomov · 29/05/2008 14:34

And I am in Chertsey, I see loads of people I recognise here.

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 14:40

Oblamov - please join us!

star6 · 29/05/2008 14:48

Ok, costa 7th June 12noon Kingston. Got it. I'm only 20 weeks so not an enormous bump... but big enough to know I'm pregnant

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/05/2008 15:07

No, don't have twins! I know how you feel - you WILL meet people when the bub comes if not before. Shame you can't make the meet-up in Kingston. Unfortunately I have moved out of London now, but otherwise would've been up for coffee (and cake of course). Seriously tho, do chat to people at yoga!

PregnantPenguin · 29/05/2008 15:48

Hiya - I'm a Wimbledon based first time Mum to be due 12 June. If you want to drop me an email anytime to meet up, please do. (I can't do the 7th )

I'm planning to go to the local NCT morning near me once this one is born to meet other people - I haven't done their antenatal classes, they were too booked up.

mum2b1 · 29/05/2008 16:15

So who is coming to this KIngston thing then?

Dont worry people who cant make it - I am sure we will have another and then there is also once the little ones are here!!

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 16:29

I'm nowhere near you, but where I am, one of my mum friends set up a website for just the purposes of meeting other mums. there are now over 50 registered on it (it's by invitaion only) and we meet up once a week for coffee and a chat or a walk in the park (obviously not all 50 at once though ). It's like a mini version of facebook crossed with MN local and is quite good for a bit of sc=ocial networking. One of the mums sells her usbourne books through it, and I'm hoping to get my nappy business up on there in due course.

I'm not technical though so not sure how it works.

Have a nice meet up though.

oh, and you can go to the NCT coffee mornings/bumps and babies without being a member. You just have to pay your 50p on the day

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 16:36

Is everyone on facebook?? I could set up a private group for MN people in Surrey/London who want to meet up?

dozymare · 29/05/2008 16:45

Hello all!!! Yes I am on facebook and happy for a private group to be set up!!!!!!! Especially if we are going to meet, as will not be so random!!!

For those of you that don't know me from the due in Nov 2008 thread, I am 33 and have 2 DS's aged 4 and nearly 2. Live just outside Epsom and work at home 2 days a week mum!

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 16:51

anyone who wants to join the facebook group, please e-mail me your e-mail address to [email protected] and I will invite you.

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 17:18

If you are already on facebook I need your full name to as I can't invite you to the group unless you are my friend.

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 17:23

DM check your facebook!

dozymare · 29/05/2008 17:36

I can confirm that Chocorange and Dozymare are officially facebook friends!!!!

Come join us, it's a private group!!

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 17:42

If anyone wants to join the facebook group, join facebook and search for MN Surrey and South West London and ask to join and then I can accept you - maybe tell me your MN name when you send your request so I know you are a proper M2B!

PregnantPenguin · 29/05/2008 17:52

Hi ChocOrange - I'm on facebook, but can't find this group. I have emailed you my real name so you can find me on FB please! Thank you.

staranise · 29/05/2008 18:13

Haven't had a chance to read all the messages but I help out with the NCT in SW London, though the far side from you. You don't actually have to be a member for most of the activities we run - coffe mornings, picnics etc. Plus many areas run 'speed bumps' which is like speed dating for pg women to meet each other. We also do very popular New members evenings, specifically so that pg women in the same area can meet each other and you don't have to be a member to attend.

Clapham NCT, which is quite near you, is massive and very well-organised, so check out their website. Once you have the baby it is much easier to meet other mums, but I know that doesn't help you now! Best of luck

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 18:16

DM and PP I have invited you to join the group!

Essie3 · 29/05/2008 18:52

Just read the message by chance - I'm sometimes in Tooting and I'm a mum to be! ('Sometimes' - life is complicated, I live in 2 places hundreds of miles apart, and may not be in Tooting so much once the baby comes in June. I'm not having the baby in Georges either so I'm not there now.)

But I do know that there are plenty of opportunities to meet other mums in Tooting, once the baby is born!

PregnantPenguin · 29/05/2008 20:08

[PP waves at Essie] If you were having the baby in St Georges we might bump into one another as we're due on the same day!
