Snip reversal

Hi,

Met a new guy recently and we have talked about trying for a baby next year hopefully. However he had the snip before me around 4 years ago. I know it doesn't always work the vasectomy reversal. Has anybody fallen pregnant after a reversal?

My DH had a reversal 9 years after his and we have gone on to have 3 children of our own. We were told it was down to length of time, as more scar tissue can form and make the reversal trickier and obvious age of female too, I was mid-late twenties when conceived. The surgeon who operated on my husband said he was always hopeful doing reversals for those who had it done less than 10 years. Good luck if you decide to go through with it

@Rosegarden12 thank you! That's positive to hear. I'm 34 so conscious of my age hence the plan to start the process next year. Did you have to pay privately to have the process reveresed?.

@novanoir fingers crossed for us both! Do you have a plan to start trying soon?

Fingers and toes crossed for you!
Not yet, as he hasn’t even booked the procedure in yet. It costs around £4k where we are in Kent. He was so silly to have something so permanent done when he was still so young, but what’s done is done!
Ive heard as the years go by the chances can ‘decrease‘ but then others have had good success stories (like above poster). I think it all depends on the individual xx

Sorry, you met him recently and you’re discussing babies?

We paid privately yes as didn’t want to wait, my wonderful Nan paid for it for us, and she said when my daughter was born that it was the best money she’d ever spent 🥰 I can only imagine the wait times on the NHS are even longer than they were when we first looked into it 15 years ago.

Greybeardy · 10/08/2025 21:46

reversal isn't usually offered as an NHS procedure. That would usually be discussed during the consent process before having the vasectomy so any man having one should know that they'll likely have to pay if they want it reversed.

Hi there,
A word of warning - my user name is a big clue- I had an ex who adored me and was wanting to try for baby's with me and proposing 6 months in, he ended up running away the night before our two year anniversary when we were engaged and I was 8 months pregnant. I was similar age to you when I met him. PLEASE WAIT AT LEAST TWO YEARS before you try, and test him that he can be great when you are ill, going through stress, dealing with bereavement. Check that he prioritizes your rest and wellbeing at least as equal to his own and more when you need it eg when
You're ill.
It might be a man who is very excited as he's met a lovely woman, or it might be a love bomber narcissist. You just can't tell at this stage.

Yes. Of course we are adults. No point not discussing things like this. How would we both find out if one is not willingly to have a baby? How would I know he's had the snip if we don't have these conversations?

He has DC already. I have 1 DC but I would love another one day. Obviously time isn't on my side... so we decided to discuss again next year about the reversal. I'm not knocking on.... age wise so yes it's quick but I'd rather that than not be able to conceive because I've left it too late!

hi OP... I am currently pregnant with a reversal baby. My partner had the reversal done in March of this year and was successful. I am 36. His original vasectomy was 7 years old. My top tips...

  1. do your research and find a good surgeon. You don't want a general urologist, you want a surgeon who specialises in this. There are also different techniques that surgeons do, you also want to look for a surgeon who offers different options.
  2. Join some groups - there is quite a few on facebook. I gained a lot of info from these groups about the do's and the don'ts, the different type of reversals, the success rates.
  3. start preparing your bodies for this as soon as you can. It all helps.

feel free to ask any questions and good luck xx
