Hi, i am mum of daughter. i am 37 years old now. My daughter was conceived naturally during covid time after coming under 1.5 years of unexplained infertility. Now she is healthy and 4.5 years old. This year we tried again for our second one and it came within a month. 18th May was my first day of last period and pregnancy test came positive on 23rd June. I am diabetic so i called my gp asap to check my blood work and help me with any changes in my meds.

i am on Folic acid, vitamin d, Iron tab and Metformin 1000 mg twice a day. I had implantation symptom near 6-7 weeks like brown mucus discharge when wiping few times, cramps and other pregnancy symptom throughout. But when i was offered viability scan at 10 weeks in scan room. Scanner was not able to see anything. So she did transvaginal ultrasound and said the fetus is measuring only 6 weeks and 6 days without heart beat. Also, she found haematome measuring 84x34x44 which is large. the scanner said then and there that i might had missed miscarraige and baby stopped developing after 4 weeks of pregnancy. She referred us next day to gynae.

Next morning after gynae went through scan she gave me another scan date next week. I am still waiting but she did mention 50 50 chance . I am having all kinda feeling and really think if this doesnt work we won't try for another again. I don't have any friends who gone through mmc in UK. which makes me very anxious what will i decide when they said that the baby is no more. Does we see fetus in sanitary pad/ or is it only period blood. i sometimes also feel like i will ask my doc to send me to hospital for 1-2 days as i really don't want to be at home with a toddler and my father in law while having heavy bleeding or cramping. Sorry for long post but any experience of haematome/low fetus growth in early pregnancy is welcome.

Hello. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had a six week miscarriage but it was probably “anembryonic” (where the fetus stops growing and gets re-absorbed). Mine got re-absorbed at about four weeks.

I only had blood when I miscarried, no embryo (sorry to be pedantic but it’s only a fetus after 8 weeks). If your embryo stopped growing at four weeks then it may get re-absorbed like with me or it might come out but it would be very small (like, 3mm). So I don’t think you will see anything distressing but obviously miscarriage is very distressing in itself.

I would advise going for all the blood tests and scans they offer you as they need to check that your body has successfully expelled the products of conception. If any were retained, you could get sepsis. Hopefully your body can clear things naturally but if not, you may need medication or minor surgery to get everything out. Definitely listen to the advice.

I am so sorry this is happening to you and I hope things go as well as possible from here xx

Its strange that she says yes you're 6+ weeks but baby stopped developing at 4 weeks. It wouldnt work like that. Babies dont carry on developing when passed.
Sorry to be very blunt with that one.

My third miscarriage, well baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks but my sac carried on growing up until 9/10 weeks so the whole pregnancy was abnormal.

With the sound of things the outcome can go either way, haematomas are bastards, im currently 25 weeks, i had a haematoma at 13 weeks which measured 59 x 19 x 61mm and i bled up until around 16 weeks, all brown bleeding but it started as bright red with clots.

I think as long as they manage you, so if you are having more red blood than brown they will keep an eye, i went back after 3 weeks to be told it will happen until the haematoma had gone as my body refused to get rid by soaking it back in😅

To add at that gestation you'll likely see big clots, but they shouldnt be any bigger than a 50p. I got told off for leaving it when my first pregnancy passed, my body passed a huge clot the size of my palm!

But you wont tell which is clot and which is baby.

Good luck! Wishing you the best OP x

Maybe what the scanner meant was the baby stopped developing after 4 weeks of growth? Because obviously pregnancy is dated from last period but you aren’t pregnant for two of those weeks. So maybe the scanner confused it by going by embryo gestation vs pregnancy dating? I could be wrong. Just trying to think what scanner could have meant.

I’ve had two missed miscarriages now. First scan was 7 weeks and was measuring 5. Rescan two weeks later and no growth. For that one I had surgical management as I wanted it over with. The second one was scan at 7 weeks and was measuring 6. Rescan 2 weeks later no growth but I started bleeding the day after the second scan. Was like a very heavy period for me but more clots.

I'm so sorry but at 6 weeks 6 days, you'd expect to see a clear HB 😔

KiaraJ2 · 05/08/2025 09:19

@Ginnygi yeah i understand that, also with my 1st daughter i went to scan at 7 weeks and she had a heartbeat. so, i am now sure that this baby is long gone. It's just that i am not having any symptoms and wil do things as gynae suggest. It strange that they were not at all worried about haematoma. Anyways thanks for your comment.

@KiaraJ2 please let us know how you get on.

KiaraJ2 · 06/08/2025 10:26

an update from my side

i too started bleeding last night and went to A & E but they send me back saying i am not bleeding like soaking blood and using new pads every hour so they will still do my scan as schedule. They only told me to take Paracetamol. I am not bleeding continuously rather on and off. So, anyways i have to wait to get told that i miscarried as it can only be determined by scan

I’m really sorry that you are not getting answers. Unfortunately I had a similar experience. I went to A&E due to a suspected haemorrhage (as advised by my early pregnancy unit) but other than checking my blood count to see if I needed a transfusion, A&E couldn’t do anything with regard to diagnosing the miscarriage.

I had to wait a week for the scan with early pregnancy unit and it was awful because I had a degree of hope for that time. I didn’t get closure until the scan and seeing the empty picture on the screen after hoping things would be ok for a week was not pleasant. Just to give you some idea of how things might be for you.

The NHS is very tightly stretched so I think they’re giving you what they can; your experience is unfortunately standard. I’m sorry you’re having to wait though. Make sure you take someone supportive to your scan.

Ginnygi · 06/08/2025 13:06

@KiaraJ2 is there any chance you would be able to get a private scan today? Sending hugs.

KiaraJ2 · 06/08/2025 13:29

@Feliciacat thanks for your support. i got a call in late morning saying the same thing about symptom to come to nhs and that they are still considering my upcoming scan.

@Ginnygi i can opt for private but dont feel like one, like let the bad news reach me in it's time. They havent postponed or pre-poned my scan so i will go for it when it's schedule. At this stage i don't trust my body as now i am not bleeding other than making my pad lil brownish red.
