I’m pregnant with my second child which is honestly amazing after trying for over a year .
I’m just doing the online self referral for BadgerNotes and one of the question is ‘Have you, your partner or your child had any involvement with Social Services?’ I have had to answer yes as my son was on a child in need back in 2022 for roughly 4 months and have had no involvement since. The involvement being due to my sons SEN needs and home conditions in our old flat such as Damp /mould that was going through the entire apartment block .we now live in a different area with no issues at all and my son has more support for his SEN needs ..Does this mean this pregnancy will be automatically referred to social services and that they will get involved? Honestly it has made me incredibly anxious.Last year I was diagnosed with PTSD and BPD and I know social services still have a lot of stigma towards BPD especially .This is a very recent diagnosis and was not part of the original child in need plan .Has anyone had a situation like this and been ok ? Reassurance welcome .

Have a chat with your midwife about your concerns, it doesn't sound like there is a need for SS intervention currently, but hearing this from your midwife will offer reassurance / explanation.

As your previous CiN SS involvement, they can help & assist in a supportive way, it's not all Draconian / taking away your kids / bad parenting.

I’m a community midwife. Please be honest, it’s always more concerning if people don’t disclose things. What we’d normally do in this situation is ask the history and then confirm with SS. It doesn’t mean they’ll get involved again, they often just say “yes was open to CIN but can confirm case closed” and that’s that. Also BPD would not be an automatic referral. Congratulations on your pregnancy.
