Stop–Start Bleeding After Seeing Heartbeat – IVF FET Pregnancy 6 weeks

Hi everyone,

New here and trying to stop myself spiralling with the events of this weekend.

I’m 6 weeks pregnant via IVF FET. Since Friday evening I’ve been having bright red bleeding that starts in the evening, continues overnight, and slows right down by late morning. It’s happened the same way each day since.

Friday night’s bleeding was period-like, but it eased after I took another shot of lubion in the morning as suggested by our consultant. Yesterday I had an emergency scan and we saw the gestational sac, yolk sac, fetal pole, and heartbeat, and he said everything looked fine. By the time of the scan, the bleeding had subsided to just spotting.

Last night the bleeding came back again (bright red, some clots) and was heavier overnight into this morning, but now it’s slowed again. I’m also on Cyclogest, Progynova, Prednisolone, and daily Clexane at 5 pm, which I think may be making the night bleeding worse. I’ve had mild cramps but no severe pain or dizziness.

Has anyone had this stop–start bright red bleeding with clots after seeing a heartbeat and still gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? Could it be a small SCH or cervical bleeding made worse by Clexane? I only seem to bleed a few hours after clexane shot .

I’ve taken my usual clexane at 5pm and now feel like a sitting duck waiting for the bleed again 😢

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sorry for the stress you're having.

The bleeding it's likely due to clexane. You can bleed randomly when you're on that medicine. Can you speak to an OB or the doctor who recommended it?

I was on daily 150 mg aspirin and Clexane 40 mg when at 9 weeks suddenly started bleeding a lot. I went for a scan and it was an SCH. However, my doctor recommended I alternate the medicine for 2 weeks, one day yes, one day not for the following two weeks and stop both of them when actively bleeding.

It was a small SCH but it still bled like a lot with a blood clot for one day only, from then only spotting. But with clexane you may bleed even without a SCH.

Talk to an OB about what to do with clexane while you're bleeding. My SCH went away by itself after weeks 12-14 and had a successful birth.

Best wishes

Thank you for your response. it’s nice to hear positive outcomes 💛

Last night I still had some bleeding, but thankfully nowhere near as heavy as the previous nights. The only thing I did differently yesterday was rest in bed most of the day, so maybe that’s helped.

The clexane was prescribed along with Lubion after a failed FET in May, and honestly, I’m so thankful for them as they’ve done an amazing job supporting implantation and getting us this far. That said, I can’t help but wonder if the Clexane is contributing to the amount of bleeding.

I’m waiting for a call back from the clinic to see if any medication changes are needed. I’m too nervous to adjust anything on my own, even though there’s a pretty clear pattern emerging. I’ll be sure to update once I hear back.

I also have IVF pregnancy, and had bleeding 5 times after my 6 week scan, I didn't have clots but it was bright red that eased to brown spots after a couple of hours. I'm now 15 weeks pregnant. From the ivf pregnancy forum I follow, it coukd be SCH it's common in ivf pregnancy. My 6 week scan did show a small bleeding sac, I guess it resolved itself after a week.
Have you gone to EPU? I called 111 and they arranged an Epu appointment the day after, I then paid private to scan a week later.

Im so sorry you’ve had to experience this too. It’s mind bending how many people have this happen and even more so as another IVF mama. Glad it’s resolved itself for you.

After the two heavy bleeds on Friday, the scan on Saturday and another heavy bleed Saturday night it does seem to have settled down to pinkish in colour and only when I wipe.

We’re with a private fertility clinic so haven’t called EPU yet. I’ve only just realised today that our clinic have an out of hours number! If it happens again I’ll be calling them and getting their advice.

Thank you so much for your response. I think it’s important because clearly this is common and I’d love for people to find this thread and feel reassured 💛

Just an update. I’ve been spotting on and off since Sunday morning but with no bigger bleeds. Some red and some pink however the anxiety is taking control and consuming every minute of every waking hour (which is a lot). Our scan is tomorrow and I am in such a panic at every twinge and every bathroom visit, every wipe. I’m at this point starting to feel a little unhinged.

Please tell me I’m not going mad. I just want to feel the joy of being pregnant again and not be so on high alert all the time 😢

Ohhhhh I remember feeling like this. I bled on and off with both my IVF pregnancies - a proper period at times, with clots - for the first few weeks and I thought it was game over at so many points. It was so, so hard physically and emotionally. But miraculously both babies were born fine and healthy! There is definitely hope, but I know from experience that the only real reassurance is when you see all is still well at a scan. Crossing everything for you Flowers

Ivfmama26 · 14/08/2025 11:37

Sadly it wasn’t the outcome we’d hoped for. The scan on Saturday showed the sac had collapsed and had filled with blood 😢 I can’t help but think the Clexane had something to do with it but I’m probably just looking for something to blame as there never is any real answers.

I’m allowing time to let my body and our minds recover and we will no doubt proceed with another round towards the end of the year ❤️
