Witnessed a Road Traffic Collision

Last night I saw a bike crash on the motorway right infront of me. I won't go into detail but I was the first vehicle behind it and it came out of nowhere.

I am a police officer and I have seen many traumatic things but never been witness to something happen like that in front of my eyes. I immediately stopped my car and ran to the man, prompting all the traffic to stop and started CPR as that's what I'm trained to do. I went into officer mode (I was on my way to a non operational job I now work but I have been operational for over 6 years). I had some bystander shouting at me to stop because it was futile, which of course I knew but I am taught to continue until a medical professional tells me to stop.

Anyway, once all has calmed down and the services were on the scene I realised exactly what has happened and what I've done.

I need to add I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my precious ivf baby but that wasn't a factor when I saw this happen. I just knew I had to do something, I have a duty of care as I'm never really off duty. I'm concerned I've hurt my baby by not thinking. Is the adrenaline too much for it and have I caused issues for my bean.

My husband let me know that adrenaline could cut blood supply to placenta but I don't quite have placenta yet (I'm 9+5) and I'm using hormones due to the IVF. So I'm hoping that it's okay.

I just know I would want someone to do the same for my baby if something happened and I couldn't not help someone in need.

Has anyone had experience with trauma in early pregnancy and it been okay. I really hope not but I want to know things can be okay x

It’s you who should be proud of yourself and you did an absolutely fantastic job. It was always going to end the way it did sadly but the fact you were there, on scene immediately and did what your training told you to do, you gave him the best chance and I mean it when I say you couldn’t have done more.

Your husband has a problem with your job or with you doing something he couldn’t, that’s a red flag 🚩

My husband isn't a red flag nor does he have a problem with the job I've been doing for nearly 6 years. With all respect to everyone, I think we've all got a little bit too comfortable calling husbands assholes or red flags because make one small misstep. My husband made a heat of the moment comment because he was genuinely terrified of something happening to my (as I stated) much longed for baby. He held my hand and my hair back when I go severe OHSS and was extremely sick from my IVF medications. He has been nothing but supportive of me and whilst he never made me feel pressured, I know that this baby is just as precious to him as it is to me. He's been silly and done a quick Google search which was probably wrong.

He told me he was absolutely proud of me and that he completely understands why I did what I did and my need to help people. You have to remember, I don't deal with these jobs anymore as I said I'm non operational and haven't been all whilst doing my IVF. He has seen me through some horrendous traumatic times during my job.

I've seen plenty of red flags in my work and trust me when I say, my husband isn't one of them. He's the kindest man you'll ever meet and will do anything for anyone. He made a incorrect judgement call at the time of fear. Let's not get the pitchforks out just yet.

Also I'm quite aware I didn't word it very well, which is on me.

I think it would be more stressful if you hadn't done anything to help. It would have played on your mind more. Women often have tremendous stress and adrenaline surges through out their pregnancy and nothing happens to them. Just try and enjoy your pregnancy darling

Of course you didn’t do any damage, because that wasn’t a worry based in any actual reality tbf.

There is a very real worry and fear about your pregnancy when you have undergone IVF. With your tone deaf comment, it very much sounds like this is something you have never experienced.

FullOfFresias · 07/04/2026 10:03

Congratulations op! Fabulous news. Enjoy those new born snuggles 💙

I didn’t realise this was an old post, I was going to post something in support of your husband. Husbands panic, especially when their spouse is pregnant. They don’t always say the right thing at the right moment, even if their intent is pure.

but all that needs to be said now is many, many congratulations on your beautiful baby boy. My advise to you, as a mother of three men, is to enjoy him while you can but eat him before he becomes a teenager 😜
