What is it worth buying? Bearing in mind I don't want to be traipsing round lots of shops and carrying loads of bags home. I have sleepsuits obviously, but only one little cardigan. Will I need more of these? Maybe even a snowsuit? Dd was born at this time of year but the weather was beautiful I don't want lack of warm clothes to keep us in the house more than we need to be, but at the same time I don't want to spend money on things I don't really need, especially when I can layer vests, babygros etc. I am hoping to use the sling straightaway as it will let us be more mobile, especially with dd in tow, so I am guessing more 'outdoorsy' clothes will be needed rather than any more blankets?

that's alright - you'll only need bodysuits and sleepsuits to begin with anyway

one of each plus a blanket would be perfect for a day like today

WendyWeber · 28/05/2008 13:16

Maybe a couple of cotton hoodies? (Knitted or jersey)

ie this sort of thing

WendyWeber · 28/05/2008 13:17

(It's cool and damp here today, and that's indoors )

It's not worth buying anything except a blanket to wrap them up in.

You will get gifts and can always ask for warmer stuff then. I'm guessing it's your first so you won't know what stuff is easy to get on and off til you try yourself so just hold off the purchases - you can get whatever you need in shops or over the internet once the baby's here.

littlelamb wants to take him out in a sling though - blankets not a lot of use with a baby in a sling...

I love this one - stripes and spots (it wasn't on that other page, I don't know why).

littlelamb · 28/05/2008 13:39

ooo wendywebber those are all lovely! I think I might just wait and ask for warmer things as gifts- my mum is desperate to buy anything and I was going to hold on and ask her to get me some nursing bras which isn't a very interesting thing to shop for I suppose Either that,or the weather is going to miraculously improve

you can put next size up cardies and trousers on over a sleepsuit. Or just another sleepsuit.

blankets fine for using in ring or pouch slings, only no good for bjorn types.

cotton jersey hats v good and not expenisve

Tutter · 28/05/2008 13:42

wear a wrap/poncho over sling - that's what i did - keeps you both warm

MrsBadger · 28/05/2008 13:43

if sling is bjorn type get your mum to buy one of these

they are ace and easier to put on than a snowsuit

HaventSleptForAYear · 28/05/2008 19:54

These baby hoodies are great too - I had the winter one for a January baby but I think the one lined with cotton and one layer of fleece would be great for summer.

You just wrap them up in it and can put v. thin layers underneath.

morrck hoodie

littlelamb, if you have a mei tai/wrap type sling then you probably won't want anything else than a cardigan, if that.
I swelter atm if I am out with ds2 in a wrap, better in the mei tai, but he still gets hot even in that- just wearing a vest and one other layer.

just perhaps get a pair of mittens, bootees and a hat.

for pram etc a cardigan and blankets ought to be fine
