Can you use period pants after csection

Just starting to plan my hospital bag and thinking back on how I was after 1st csection.

My bleeding wasnt that bad as I think they scoop alot of the matter out when you are open on the table? I remember not needing the huge maternity pads after and opted for medium period pads.... but after first I switched to period pants - can I use them? Is there even any difference between period pads and maternity pads?

So I used some period pants after I had given birth (after a few weeks) and I also used them after my miscarriage. In the first few days of birth they definitely wouldn’t have been enough and needed the super massive pads.

Essentially I think they are very much the same thing. Not having had a Caesarian myself, I wouldn’t know if the band in t he pants is likely to rub against your scar? I would say have some and then also have some pads as back up for the first few days.

You want pants up to your belly button after a section. I’ve had 3

I was told using proper pads is important to monitor the blood loss effectively...

I know what you mean in that after my first csection I didn’t lose that much blood. I had my second csection 3 months ago and there was so much more blood. I was using the thick frida pads for at least 2.5-3 weeks before I could switch to thin pads.

Oh interesting. Will get the pads in.

I also wasnt sure about how hygienic the period pants would be over the open scar? I have the high waisted ones so bad would be OK but the gusset runs front to back so would be over the scar

There was more blood on my second one too. Although I must say still not 6 weeks worth. I wore lillets maternity pads a week or so but really I let it air as much as I could both in hospital and at home, was kept in 4 nights, just made sure I was sitting/laying on incontinence pads On sofa and bed.

I still didn’t need the maternity pads even after the 2nd section, normal sanitary towels were just fine. Probably best to have on hand just in case though- I knew that the hospital provided them so I would have them if needed. I probably wouldn’t use period pants in the hospital as you don’t want to have them sit dirty for days if you have to stay in but there’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t once home so long as they’re comfortable and you don’t mind the laundry.
