23 Weeks- Out of breath

I'm 23 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I am literally getting so out of breath after everything.

I've hung the washing out this morning and had to come in and lay down and I'm having to do deep breaths.

I understand there will be times where I'm out of breath but I didn't expect it so early on during pregnancy amd didn't expect to feel so tired and breathless so often. I've had waves of nausea and weakness back as well this past week.

Contact the GP for an appointment. Have you had your iron levels checked recently?

Are you usually fit & well pre-pregnancy? Breathless to the point of needing to lie down is not normal and I’d get checked over

I was going to say - iron. I ended up with an iron infusion and it was magic.

if it’s come on acutely please get checked out ASAP (speak to 111 or go straight to A&E) as pregnancy can cause blood clots/pulmonary embolisms which are incredibly serious. Otherwise, yes, get your iron levels checked by your midwife/GP.

I’m 25 weeks and in the same boat. I mentioned it to the midwife a couple of weeks ago, had bloods checked (for both anaemia and ferritin which is what stores iron in your body) and had low ferritin so am now taking iron supplements to stop full blown anaemia later in pregnancy. They’re also giving me an echo to check my heart but I think it’s most likely just the combination of shifting organs meaning my lungs have less space, the low ferritin, weight gain, and the heat.

It’s tough being pregnant! Definitely get yourself checked out.

I had almost the exact same symptoms and the same gestation and then had a funny turn and almost fainted.
Had bloods done and I had low B12 which made me feel absolutely awful but had all the injections and it sorted it out.
Also had similar much later in pregnancy and had low iron.
You definitely need bloods checked for these but both are fixed easily.

Agreed with others about getting your iron checked. I had similar at a very similar point in pregnancy and had low iron. Get them to check stores as well as blood levels too!
