Help - Abortion Question (16F)

Hi

So long story short i’m 16 and ended up pregnant because of my own stupidity of not using protection in the moment and I am now around 3 weeks pregnant. Tests kept coming negative until today which has just given me a massive shock. I’m seriously not ready to have a child so I want to get an abortion done and my boyfriend is in the same of boat of not wanting to carry on with this pregnancy. However I have contacted BPAS and they have said that I need an adult to consent to the abortion because of my age, I honestly don’t have anyone that would be able to do this for me and I seriously cannot let my mom know about this pregnancy so that’s out of the question. Does anyone have any advice so i could get this done quickly as I will be going in a 2 month long holiday in the next three weeks and i’m just really stressing about this now. I have also contacted MSI but they aren’t contracted within birmingham to do the abortion so does anyone know any other providers that are more lenient about this or are there any services I could go to that would provide someone for me?

Thank you

Also i can only think of guys that would keep it to themselves that i am pregnant, I don’t really have any older female friends that could do it for me

I'm certain that you do not need an adult 's consent (see Gillick competent )
You can get a medical termination, ie tablets and I suggest you go to a pharmacy to ask.
They have a duty of confidentiality so no-one needs to know. Alternatively your GP can help.

Good luck and try not to worry.

I don't think that's right, I'd call bpas back and challenge it - ask to speak to their manager. I know someone who works there and the calls are closely monitored to make sure they're doing everything correctly.

Speak to them again. Even on their own website it says you can consent to your own treatment:

Where are you ? Roughly. This is a predominantly U.K. /Scotland forum.

Apologies it’s the ‘mom’ that has thrown me.

Just to reassure you as previous posters have said, you do not need an adult's consent to have an abortion, and you do not have to tell your mum. However, you will need a trusted adult to come with you to your appointment. BPAS's information is here - https://www.bpas.org/abortion-care/under-18/

If you give them a call back and explain your situation they will be able to help you find a way to access care - they do this a lot and are the best people to speak to. Make sure to tell them when you're going away so they can make sure they can find an appointment that works for you.

They can't unfortunately. BPAS are the contracted provider for abortion services in Birmingham so you will need to go through them. You cannot access abortions from your GP or pharmacy.

Oh ok thank you for the clarification, I was just wondering if you knew whether I could bring a male support person? I’m quite close with my older cousin and he knows all about what happened and is also known to my boyfriend but the website is kind of vague about this

As far as I know it doesn’t have to be a woman, it can be a man, they just have to be over 18 and able to go with you x

Just checking OP to ensure you get best advice. As pp say, a male over 18 should be able to go with you.
Lots of good advice- look after yourself ok x

Remember always no question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer.
