Good morning all,

I am just wondering if you self referred as soon as you had a positive test ? I am currently 12dpo and wondering when to inform the midwife services ? Was going to wait till a full missed period and do it next week or even wait till I see 3+ on a clear blue.

I know I am overthinking this

I don’t think I did until ~6/7 weeks

Hello,

I did it when I found out at 4/5 weeks just because I like to be organised and the midwife said thank you, it gives them more time to organise appointments!

I called the day i got a positive test as they calculate the dates of your last period and then send out an appointment for about 8-10 weeks.

I self-referred a few days after I tested positive so around 4 weeks+. As pp mentioned it gives the midwifery team time to organise appointments so you can be seen before 12 weeks. The only downside I can think of with self-referring early is that if it doesn’t work it will be heartbreaking to still get that appointment letter. However that can potentially happen at any point of the first trimester (and beyond) so for me it shouldn’t stop you from self-referring even with all the uncertainty!

Ok thanks everyone, I will refer on Monday when I’m 4+3 😅 it’ll make me feel better being in the 4’s

I waited a few weeks because I was going back and forth about which hospital to book with. When I finally referred I found out I only had one choice because the other hospital didn't have a home birth team. Could have saved myself a few hours of internet time if I'd just got in touch straight away!

First pregnancy about 4 weeks as I couldn’t wait! This pregnancy about 7 weeks as I was too busy! I am seeing the same community midwife at my gp surgery as before which is nice. She just sent me a text saying congrats and a time for my booking appointment!

Not until around 8 weeks for me - but I was under the care of the EPU through self referral after 6 weeks due to 4 previous missed miscarriages. I had a scan with them before I self referred to the midwife team, then another scan at 10 weeks before I had my booking appointment. They have been very understanding and accommodating around my history.
