HELP! Did my waters just break?!

Went to the loo for a number 2. When I stood up and pulled up my pants felt a small gush that made me go “oooooh” immediately checked my knickers (which are unfortunately dark coloured) and noticed there was a wet patch. Sat back on the loo and had a bit of a root around as it were. Nothing of note and no gushing or trickling or anything. I’ve changed my knickers and the wet patch doesn’t have a urine smell. This happened about ten mins ago, now lying down as I’ve read that’s helpful to do and then check again after about ten mins? I am not experiencing any craps or anything like that. I should also say this is my first so I don’t have a clue about any of it! I’m due to have a c-section on Tuesday so really hoping this isn’t labour starting.

You probably should ring the midwife, especially if you are having a section.

Duiprinelloo · 24/07/2025 12:55

I would call your midwife or triage

Sunshineismyfavourite · 24/07/2025 12:56

Sounds like it could be. Definitely call your midwife they will need to check you over especially with the planned c section as pp mentioned.

Best of luck OP!

Definitely call your midwife (I’ve just spoken to my DC who is a midwife, they were amused I was calling for someone on SM).

Aminotic fluid has a distinctive smell, like hay. Put a pad in to collect any more so that they can test it.

CrispAppleStrudels · 24/07/2025 13:04

Put a pad in your knickers, ring triage and when you get there, they can swab the pad (and you if necessary) and confirm whether it is waters. They look different under a microscope. My waters broke with DD2 3 days before my c section was booked so they told me to go straight in. Take your hospital bag just in case. I had a vaginal birth in the end which was great but if not, they would have done my c section that morning.

Put a pad in and go to maternity triage asap.

Mine started like this, wasn’t the typical flood of waters, was more a trickle and little gush, kept happening over a few hours and one big enough to soak through my trousers, I started having contractions soon after

andanotherproblem · 24/07/2025 20:12

Any news?

MrsBP15 · 24/07/2025 22:59

Thanks all! False alarm it would seem. Phoned MAU they asked me to put on a pad and keep an eye. Had absolutely nothing at all on the pad and didn’t feel any trickling or have any cramps or anything. They said it sounds fine and probably just a bit of wee or even discharge. Just need to hang on until Tuesday now!!
